Holiday Prepping, Independence Day Style

June 29, 2016

American Flag ToteCan you believe that Independence Day is around the corner? And it’s a 3-day weekend too?! The 4th of July is my absolute favorite holiday.  No gifts; just sunshine, good food and friends, and fireworks!

Boho Tunic BlouseIndependence Day StyleIn honor of summer and to get you in the holiday spirit, I’ll be sharing some outfit inspiration for the remainder of the week.  Today’s outfit demonstrates that you don’t have to be so literal when planning your holiday attire.  While I admire those people that pull out an entire stars and stripes outfit for the occasion, you can also mix and match clothes already in your wardrobe, yet still be festive.  Pairing blue and white (white jeans are a staple for my summer wardrobe) and adding a pop of red is a fun way to be patriotic.  Go the extra mile, and find some accessories that really get you humming the Star Spangled Banner.

This outfit is perfect for Seattle’s temperate (read: temperamental) climate.  For this look, I’m imagining a backyard BBQ or a day spent at the park, awaiting the fire works.  Did you know that it doesn’t get dark in Seattle until nearly 10:00 pm on the 4th of July? That means for a day spent at the park, you definitely need to pack layers!  These photos were taken at Gas Works Park at the north end of Lake Union, where the city sets off their fireworks display each year.

4th of July AccessoriesIndependence Day Outfit InspirationMy entire outfit can be found at Queen Anne Dispatch, my favorite local boutique.  Not in the Seattle area?  Not to worry – they ship!

It’s a Bodycon Dress…

June 22, 2016

Topshop Belted Midi Dress…and it’s the “best thing I’ve bought this week.”  In addition to this cherry-pink color lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury.  So, I guess that’s 2 best things!

This style of dress is totally out of my comfort zone, as I usually opt for more roomy, forgiving pieces for daywear.  Also, living in the “land of skinny jeans” for several years now, I’m more accustomed to wearing longer, more flowy tops, which balance the proportions of a slim pant.  However, with the increasing popularity of flares or wid-leg pants (not-to-mention my love for them?!), more fitted tops and body-con styles are back in vogue.

How to wear a dress casually

Thus , I gave this style of dress a chance…and I couldn’t be more pleased!  Thick enough to provide both comfort and coverage, with just the right amount of stretch – and so versatile too!  Pair with heels for a date night-worthy look or easy to wear with flat sandals for brunch (or school pick-up).  And you’ll notice I’m applying the same principal of proportions here by pairing the fitted dress with an oversized denim jacket.  A more fitted topper or something more cropped would likely highlight more curves than I would feel comfortable with.Summer accessories

Countdown to Summer *GIVEAWAY* with Coco On The Go

June 15, 2016

coco on the go groovy crop leggingsA great pair of leggings are empowering; inspiring your workout and motivating you thru the daily grind (whether that be a challenging barre class or a trip to the busy grocery store). Kirsty and I had a blast playing dress up last summer when Coco On The Go‘s founder, Nicole, generously lent us some leggings to play around in.  But it wasn’t until I finally splurged on a pair for myself this spring that I understood the true power of these leggings.

colorful yoga pants

Stretchy, yes.  Wide waistband, a must. But it’s the graphic, textured print that “had me at hello.” And everyone else too.  I’ve been stopped on the street and a classmate in my Pilates class, just this morning, actually pet them (I don’t blame her!).  I haven’t reached for any other pant since I received them and they’ve held their shape great while being in constant rotation.  I love all of the bright colors (of course) and the textured pattern-play make them so unique.

Now you can have a chance to try Coco On The Go’s leggings for yourself!  In collaboration with Kirsty and Nicole, we are awarding one lucky winner a pair of Coco On The Go leggings of their choice! Check out the entry details below…

THE Best Thing I’ve Bought This Week

June 14, 2016

J.Crew Rayner Wide-Leg JeansI’m considering a new series featuring things I’ve bought (or are lusting after) each week.  I was inspired by a recent purchase I’m IN LOVE with – you know those items that arrive in the mail and you immediately change into and don’t take off for days in a row? These white, denim culottes fit the bill.

J.Crew Rayner Wide-Leg JeansJ.Crew Rayner Wide-Leg Jeans

These run true to size; however, mine are a regular but are fairly long.  I’m 5’8″, so if you are on the shorter side, I would consider the petite sizing.  Generally if you are not truly petite (under 5’4″), you should size up one whole size.
