What I’m Lovin: Black Friday Sales

November 26, 2015

P1130384Family, friends, feast, and…shopping?

First and foremost, I hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful holiday surrounded by those you love.  I am so very grateful for my family and friends, my health, and for you…thank you for supporting my growing business and for following along with my fashion inspirations and styling advice.

I both love and hate that this time of year has turned into a national shopping fest with deals stretching from late November all the way until the end of the year.  While I want to maintain the true spirit of the holiday season, I would be remiss to not share with you the amazing retail offers available now.  And though we may spend this time focusing on our gift lists, I urge you to take advantage of some of these offers and splurge on something for yourself as well.  For example, now may be the time to buy those expensive pair of booties you’ve been eyeing (that you would never pay full-price for) because these deals are too good to be true!

Rag & Bone Harrow Bootie

Rag & Bone ‘Harrow’ Bootie (my absolute favorite bootie)

Shopbop: With code “GOBIG15” you can score up to 25% off your order (some…but, surprisingly few, restrictions apply).  Promotion ends Monday, November 30th.

f15_04_n03_57093_10292_on_a(1)

Birchbox: One of go-to beauty retailers is offering 25% off your entire order with a $35 minimum purchase (code is “BIGDEAL”), expires November 29th at 11:59 pm ET. You don’t have to be a subscriber to purchase, although if you do subscribe you earn points to use toward future purchases.

  • Gap (50% off everything with code BLKFRIDAY, expires November 27th)

  • Madewell (25% off your entire order with code CALMDOWN, expires November 29th)

Like some of my favorites?  If you shop thru my links, you get great style advice and I get a small commission from your purchase.  Thank you for your continued support.

Please enjoy a happy and safe holiday weekend! ~Jenn

How-To: Holiday Shop Online

November 24, 2015

bokeh-christ-christmas-christmas-tree-coffee-Favim.com-113045

‘Tis the season for online sales a’plenty.  In an effort to not get swept-up in seemingly too-good-to-be-true deals, keep in mind these golden rules of internet shopping:

  • Only shop retailers you trust.  My go-to’s include, but are not limited to the following:
    • (apparel) Nordstrom, Shopbop, Zappos, Bloomingdales
    • (cosmetics) Sephora, Beauty.com,  Nordstrom
    • (home decor) Anthropologie*, Williams Sonoma*
    • (kids) Hanna Andersson*, Mini Boden, YoYo
  • Free-shipping and returns are a MUST.  Around the holidays, extended returns are critical for gift buying.  If there are no free returns, ensure that you can return the item(s) to a brick and mortar store.  Also, pay attention to estimated delivery dates to ensure timely delivery of your gifts.  Keep an eye out for backordered warnings and, as the holidays approach, pay attention to shipping deadlines.
  • No final sale…EVER.  Enough said.
  • Know your sizing and how brands fit.  This is also important as you shop for those on your gift list.
  • Search for coupon codes before purchasing.  I always look for an item or enter the retailer’s name and “coupon code” or “free shipping” to ensure I haven’t missed a great deal.

*Look for “free shipping” offers from these sites.

When shopping large sites, it helps to refine your search.  Be as specific as possible.  If you know exactly what you’re looking for, use the search function.  For larger sites, refine by your size, brands you like, color, and/or items (for example, size 8, coats, pink).

“Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” deals seem to have crept in to earlier in the week, so it’s worth taking a peek before you sign-out from the office for the holiday.

Stay tuned for more of my favorite online sales and holiday picks coming to the blog later this week.  Happy clicking! And, don’t forget to include your UPS delivery man on your Christmas list.  ~Jenn

Outfits: Dressing-Up Distressed Denim

November 20, 2015

P1130299For those of us who remember the “grunge era” of the 1990’s, it may be difficult to imagine dressing up a lived-in flannel or styling a slouchy beanie to go anywhere respectable.  However, distressed denim is  a trend that is here to stay and, when pairing with sophisticated pieces, torn jeans can easily be taken out to dinner (or at least a drink)!

P1130276

In this look, my tattered jeans are elevated to date-night wear when paired with a sophisticated (and covered-up) cashmere turtleneck and pony-hair d’Orsay pumps.  A fringed clutch compliments the rock and roll vibe of the destroyed jeans.  Also, black distressed jeans are easier to dress-up than a pair of faded blue jeans (although it can be done!).

jeans: Frame Denim
sweater: Diane von Furstenberg (navy)
heels: Trouvé (old)
clutch: Zara

As always, thanks for reading.  Any and all comments or questions are welcome.  Happy Friday! ~Jenn

PS. Not willing to invest in a pair of destroyed jeans at premium denim prices?  The pair below are my new favorite…and they’re less than $100 from Express.

Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted t Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted the new year feeling inspired with a renewed intention for my account; to share with you the goodies I love, wear, try. Unfiltered and honest. That’s what I’m here for. But then...2021 arrived feeling much like her older sister, 2020. Instead, I’ve avoided a lot of social media; choosing to tune into various news outlets and into my family. So, HERE WE ARE. A post proving that I got dressed yesterday, wearing some of my new favorites (these @flamingosshoes white boots!) and steady stand-bys (year 2 wearing this @notmondaymercantile beanie on repeat). I took the kids out after school to run a couple of errands and connect with a business I love to support; we made plans for a spring share. Man, it felt good to get out! And now, I’m posting early before I’ve read the morning news. So, it’s happened.

Please stay safe, remain respectful, and true to yourself. Social media is a beautiful way to connect, create, and inspire...but can also be a dangerous rabbit hole of misinformation and an opportunity for people to behave in a way they ordinarily wouldn’t in person. Off my soap box. Have a lovely Friday!#wordsfrommyheart #realoutfitgram #flamingosshoes #whiteboots #notmondaymoments
Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you all but enjoyed a nice long break. Heading back home after some snow time and I’m feeling re-energized (for now). Isn’t it funny how a change in the calendar can make you feel different? Are you a “new year, new you” kinda gal or more indifferent? I do like a good reset. Even though we’ll be doing more of the same early this year, I’m feeling more optimistic. For now. Cheers to 2021!

Also, posted in stories a nearly identical photo of us from last January at the top of @schweitzer_mountain. While the photos look the same, it’s fun to think that we now are Sandpoint homeowners! A positive outcome of 2020. #newyearonthemountain #snowbest #schweitzermountain #skifamily
Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all the boxes this year. Thinking of everyone not able to spend time with loved ones this year. I’m so grateful for our little family but really missing my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, my in-laws. Over a year seems far too long to be apart; but we all need to continue to be safe. It matters. #christmassweater #christmas2020 #staysafestayhome #vintagesweater

Like the new-to-me homemade marshmallow recipe, @thekirstyfiles and I have the pleasure of bringing to you in partnership with @pacific_place. We encourage you to invite a few pals to a zoom date, pop a bottle of bubbly, and create these delicious confections together. I promise they’re relatively fool proof (I pulled them off!) AND a sugar-high afternoon spent with friends (even virtually) will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Tune in to Pacific Place’s IGTV or YouTube to see the full tutorial, including my gaff when my marshmallow began moving into the “hard ball” territory (note: this recipe does require a candy thermometer and the ability to read it!). The belly laughs, chit chat, and groans (as we tried on a number of jeans) provided the escape from reality that I needed. Other things I love? Soft luxury cashmere, designer denim that fits like a glove, and packable hats (yes, packable!). All can be found @willaseattle; a small, women-owned boutique located in the heart of the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle. Be sure to check out our stories as @thekirstyfiles and I share holiday-perfect gifts for your sister, mother, girlfriends...yourself! Lucky for Kirsty and I, our husbands also know the lovely owner, Liz (and she has our wishlists on file)!

Sure, 2020 may be the year of the sweatpant (combined with a sleeping bag-like coat, as seen here). And yes, a mask chain is this year’s hottest accessory. BUT I still take care to actually get dressed each day. And while lipstick may no longer be a part of my daily routine (I mean, was it ever??), it’s still important to be pulled together..if only for my own mental health.
