Insta Round-Up

February 26, 2016

Lu. Understory DressIf you’re not on Instagram, climb out from under your rock! Whatever your reasoning, just in case you are not following along; I’m doing a round-up of my recent favorite Instagram posts (complete with outfit details).  I love (ok, obsess) following fashion, decorating, and cooking accounts on the social media app. Not only does Instagram serve as great inspiration for my outfits, meals, and home, but it is also a fun community to participate and share with.

{outfit details} dress: Lu. | jeans: Hudson | bracelet: vintage (borrowed from my mom)

Styling culottes and clogs**This weekend is your last chance to score this amazing coat (and the great dress pictured above) at 50% off!** Head over to Lu. and enter code “LovinLu.” at checkout (offer expires this coming Monday, February 29th). A special ‘thank you’ to designer Jenny Fort for offering this awesome deal exclusively to my readers.  More offer details can be found in my previous post.

{outfit details} coat: Lu. | blouse: Madewell | culottes: 7 For All Mankind | clogs: Dolce Vita | clutch: Clare V.

Distressed denim & booties{outfit details} jeans: Joe’s Jeans | clutch: Hobo | booties: Isabel Marant | bracelets: Guitar String Bracelets
(my bracelets & clutch were found at Queen Anne Dispatch)

Metallic Formal DressI’m getting ready for a black tie auction this weekend.  Outfit preparation is critical in advance of the event (read: prior to the day-of).  Pulling together shoes, accessories, and…appropriate undergarments all take time.  Even for a stylist, with a healthy-sized wardrobe!

{outfit details} dress: Asos (a fabulous place to score inexpensive special occasion wear…more on this soon!) | belt & earrings: Anthropologie

Pink Blush KimonoSpring teased us here in Seattle this week.  With sunshine and temperatures nearing 60 degrees, I’m dusting off my spring essentials.  This kimono is perfect both as a breezy, and colorful topper over a tee and poolside as a cover-up over a swim suit.  Stay tuned for more details (and a *giveaway*) coming next week!

{outfit details} kimono: PinkBlush | tee: Free People | jeans: Zara | necklace: Lucia K. Jewelry & The Giving Keys

Madewell Flea Market Flare JeansIf you read this blog regularly, you know that flare jeans are having a major moment this spring (and I’m obsessing over them). You’ll catch me in these Madewell ‘Flea Market Flares’ most every day.

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, please do! You can find more fun, including: outfit inspirations, cooking attempts, and parenting pleasures @jenniferlovin.

Spring Dressing & Netflix for Jewels

February 23, 2016

Styling flare jeans for springAs a follow-up to last week’s post featuring spring denim trends, I thought it fitting to continue to share my new-found-love, or rather, renewed appreciation for flare jeans.  Everything I want to be wearing right now seems to pair perfectly with the fit and flare silhouette.  For example, take this cropped, stripe top with the awesome gold button detailing down the back.  And then add this spring’s perfect topper – the trench…and in blush! A total match made in heaven.  And very simple ensemble to pull together.
Blush trenchNautical stripes with gold buttonsNetflix for jewelry? Did you catch that?? I wish that I had thought of Rocksbox myself! The gold collar necklace below was a score from my box.  I’m so in love, I’m considering keeping it!  Easy to do, each month members receive $10 credit towards purchasing items from their boxes…for keeps.  Sign up with code “jenniferlovinxoxo” to receive for your first month of Rocksbox free!

Are skinny jeans dead?

February 19, 2016

Flare Jean TrendUnless you’ve been living under the proverbial rock for the past decade, you know that skinny jeans have been ruling supreme in the denim world.  Love them or hate them, they seem to be devisive (perhaps it’s the name?); but they’ve been the denim style of choice for, well, most everyone.  First came the introduction of the boyfriend jean, which freed our legs from the constraints of the skinny jean but left us feeling, well, a bit sloppy.  But the continued and increasing popularity of the flare, wide-leg, and cropped bootcut (oh….yes) is making me wonder if I will ever stretch, pull, and plié into another pair of skinnies again.

Flare Jeans & ClogsMadewell

I am a child of the 1990’s; therefore, the resurgence of relaxed fit, wide-leg crops, and flares are totally nostalgic.  In addition to the cuts, even the washes are reminiscent of the decade.  Distressing has been in for years now, but now true blue denim or even acid-like washes are seeing a comeback.  And, the undone hem (like you cut it or let it out yourself) is huge for spring.  Again, didn’t we all do this to our older brother’s jeans??

Girlfriend (aka. Mom Jean): These jeans feature a slimmer cut and higher rise than it’s slouchy cousin “the boyfriend” jean.  However, a relaxed fit is key to pulling off the “model off-duty” look.  Pair with everything from sneakers to a heeled ankle bootie; however, just make sure that your upper half doesn’t have too much volume, otherwise your overall appearance could seem too “carpool frazzled.”  Perfectly paired with crop tops and body suits (have I lost you??).

_11603996(1)Hudson (I’m wearing these above in a different wash)

Flare: Nothing can make you feel more confident than a great pair of flare jeans.  Slimming and leg-lengthening (always worn with a chunky heel), they’re perfectly paired with fitted tops, tucked-in blouses, and cropped sweaters.  Go for the total 70’s vibe and wear with a great pair of wooden-sole clogs or sandals.  Or a simple boot or heel will do (nothing too dainty and never a flat), the hems of these jeans should almost skim the floor.

_8892327(1)Current/Elliott

Cropped: straight, flare, and wide-leg – you name it, it’s cropped! Perfect to show off a little more skin during the coming spring and summer months or easy to wear now with your favorite booties (no cuffing required).  I’m loving mine with sneakers (obviously) or oxfords for a preppy take on the trend.

Wide-Leg: Your legs will never feel so free.  A wide-leg jean should have a higher-rise, meeting at your waist.  Accentuate a little middle by tucking or wearing a fitted top (short-sleeve turtleneck…those are back too!).  Again, as with flares, you’re always wearing these pants with a heel and the hem should nearly graze the floor (otherwise all leg-lengthening benefits are null and void). I’m loving the tie-belt of the pair pictured above, but also would be awesome with a show-stopping belt.

Crushing on Lu.

February 16, 2016

Culottes and clogs for springLast week I introduced you to Lu., my new favorite Seattle designer.  This jacket is what started my obsession. Where to begin? The mossy color and nubby texture is amazingly snuggly and chic all at once.  However, I think it’s the swing style and pintuck detailing at the shoulders paired with the zip funnel neck that really makes this piece a true wardrobe standout.  I tried to take pictures to really do the jacket justice; literally, I have had people stop me on the street to ask where I got it.Seattle designer Lu. coat

Jenny Fort, the designer and creator of Lu., has been kind enough to extend a major discount to my readers.  Don’t miss out!  Thru the end of February, use the code “LovinLu.” at checkout to receive 50% off select pieces, including this amazing jacket.  Check out last week’s post for specifics.  Enjoy!Styling culottes for springLu. What I’m Lovin’: A Good Nordstrom Sale

February 12, 2016

_11547254

This is an excellent weekend to score some awesome deals as retailers are clearing out the last of their inventory in preparation for new spring arrivals.  However, in the spirit of last week’s post on sale watching, and in keeping with “Frugal February”, stay calm and keep these two things in mind:

  1. What is the longevity of the item? A Burberry trench scored at 40% off…YES ! Cashmere, always.  This is an awesome time of year to invest in classic, winter staples.  However, as we transition seasons, many of this season’s winter items may not have staying power into next year.
  2. How can this piece be worn into spring?  With many winter items reduced, consider how you can be wearing the item 30 days from now when you are reaching for lighter fabrics and dreaming of warmer temps.

Below you will find several newly and drastically reduced items from the Nordstrom sale.  I have them in my “wish list” for consideration (I do follow my own advice…sometimes).

Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted t Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted the new year feeling inspired with a renewed intention for my account; to share with you the goodies I love, wear, try. Unfiltered and honest. That’s what I’m here for. But then...2021 arrived feeling much like her older sister, 2020. Instead, I’ve avoided a lot of social media; choosing to tune into various news outlets and into my family. So, HERE WE ARE. A post proving that I got dressed yesterday, wearing some of my new favorites (these @flamingosshoes white boots!) and steady stand-bys (year 2 wearing this @notmondaymercantile beanie on repeat). I took the kids out after school to run a couple of errands and connect with a business I love to support; we made plans for a spring share. Man, it felt good to get out! And now, I’m posting early before I’ve read the morning news. So, it’s happened.

Please stay safe, remain respectful, and true to yourself. Social media is a beautiful way to connect, create, and inspire...but can also be a dangerous rabbit hole of misinformation and an opportunity for people to behave in a way they ordinarily wouldn’t in person. Off my soap box. Have a lovely Friday!#wordsfrommyheart #realoutfitgram #flamingosshoes #whiteboots #notmondaymoments
Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you all but enjoyed a nice long break. Heading back home after some snow time and I’m feeling re-energized (for now). Isn’t it funny how a change in the calendar can make you feel different? Are you a “new year, new you” kinda gal or more indifferent? I do like a good reset. Even though we’ll be doing more of the same early this year, I’m feeling more optimistic. For now. Cheers to 2021!

Also, posted in stories a nearly identical photo of us from last January at the top of @schweitzer_mountain. While the photos look the same, it’s fun to think that we now are Sandpoint homeowners! A positive outcome of 2020. #newyearonthemountain #snowbest #schweitzermountain #skifamily
Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all the boxes this year. Thinking of everyone not able to spend time with loved ones this year. I’m so grateful for our little family but really missing my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, my in-laws. Over a year seems far too long to be apart; but we all need to continue to be safe. It matters. #christmassweater #christmas2020 #staysafestayhome #vintagesweater
Let’s make merry! Although holiday traditions ma Let’s make merry! Although holiday traditions may look different this year; we have an opportunity to get creative and share in new experiences. Like the new-to-me homemade marshmallow recipe, @thekirstyfiles and I have the pleasure of bringing to you in partnership with @pacific_place. We encourage you to invite a few pals to a zoom date, pop a bottle of bubbly, and create these delicious confections together. I promise they’re relatively fool proof (I pulled them off!) AND a sugar-high afternoon spent with friends (even virtually) will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Tune in to Pacific Place’s IGTV or YouTube to see the full tutorial, including my gaff when my marshmallow began moving into the “hard ball” territory (note: this recipe does require a candy thermometer and the ability to read it!). Cheers to making the most out of holiday 2020! #homemademarshmallows #pacificplaceseattle #craftingtogether
Ooooh...how I love a good shopping day with a frie Ooooh...how I love a good shopping day with a friend. The belly laughs, chit chat, and groans (as we tried on a number of jeans) provided the escape from reality that I needed. Sometimes you don’t realize just how much you miss something until you get to enjoy it again!

Other things I love? Soft luxury cashmere, designer denim that fits like a glove, and packable hats (yes, packable!). All can be found @willaseattle; a small, women-owned boutique located in the heart of the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle. Be sure to check out our stories as @thekirstyfiles and I share holiday-perfect gifts for your sister, mother, girlfriends...yourself! Lucky for Kirsty and I, our husbands also know the lovely owner, Liz (and she has our wishlists on file)!

Continued chronicles of dressing stylishly for you Continued chronicles of dressing stylishly for yourself, aka #stayathomestyle. Sure, 2020 may be the year of the sweatpant (combined with a sleeping bag-like coat, as seen here). And yes, a mask chain is this year’s hottest accessory. BUT I still take care to actually get dressed each day. And while lipstick may no longer be a part of my daily routine (I mean, was it ever??), it’s still important to be pulled together..if only for my own mental health. And even if no one else sees it but the grocery clerk. #whatmamaworemonday #sweatpantsseason

Yes, perhaps it’s less convenient and even less of a “deal” but this pandemic is putting an even greater strain on the small and local businesses that are the absolute life blood of our communities.
