Cyber Monday Mania

November 28, 2016

ipad-tablet-technology-touch-800x550You know Cyber Monday has reached a new level when my husband asks, “how do I figure out this whole Cyber Monday thing??” He is NOT a shopper; this is serious. So, I’ve taken a break from designing our family Christmas card (doesn’t it seem like everything happens all at once this time of year?!), and I’m bringing you even more screamin’ steals.  You should pay attention this time…because these deals are too good to last much longer!

For my sister: cozy jammies are our tradition.  Right now, 20% off EVERYTHING at Anthropologie and free shipping when you spend at least $150. I’m also eying candles, holiday decor, and everything velvet!

For our teachers: they deserve a treat! I’m loving my Julep ‘Maven’ monthly subscription box. Today only, 50% off site-wide with code “CYBERWIN.” Their lovely polishes (which literally last forever) and beautiful makeup also make great stocking stuffers and hostess gifts…just sayin’.

For the hubs: this is a tough one every year…I’m not going to lie, he’s the most difficult on my list! He lives in James Perse tees, and several are on sale right now at Nordstrom, where you can take an additional 20% off sale merchandise (thru today only).

He’s likely dreaming of more gadgets. I’m not sure that I will relent, but an Xbox is on his wishlist (every year). Right now you can save BIG on Amazon for all of the gadget-lovers on your list, but you have to HURRY! These deals are only good for today.

For my kids: we are Lego obsessed in my house! The kids have built a Lego city (complete with a Moto Shed and bank – there is some kind of barter system). They have been begging for the volcano set, go figure.  Save an extra 15% off at Target today.  This is my stop for toys, toys, toys!

Hanna Andersson jammies are a must in our household. Every year the kids get a new pair of “hannas” and they last nearly the entire year. A slammin’ deal online today only, 20% off EVERYTHING. I also snag pairs for my nieces.

I’ve been good all year…mostly. Here’s a little something I’m eyeing for myself on Shopbop. Today is the last day to save as much as 25% off their entire site with code “GOBIG16”!

What’s on your shopping list? Please send any deals my direction (always leave a comment). Thanks for reading! Happy Monday. ~Jenn

Support Your Community, Shop Local

November 26, 2016

img_2108“Small Business Saturday” has officially become a thing (I even recently saw a celebrity packed PSA).  I love the creed of supporting small business owners and, even more, I enjoy participating by shopping local businesses that create my community.  As such, I’m sharing my favorite Seattle shopping haunts, and many are found in my neighborhood!  So if you find yourself with some free time this rainy Seattle afternoon, come up to Queen Anne.  Enjoy a cup of coffee at El Diablo Coffee (their cafe con leche is a special treat!) and wander down Queen Anne Avenue to find many special items for your gift list.

Queen Anne Frame

Last year, Kirsty and I shared a gift guide inspired by shopping around Queen Anne.  Little did we know at the time that, within just a few short months, her family would become the proud owners of one of the stores we featured!  Queen Anne Frame offers excellent, quality framing services and the gift shop houses all sorts of unique treasures; including pieces from other Seattle companies such as geometric scones and decor by Handmade Sam Made and delicate handmade jewelry by Fresh Tangerine.  Stop in today to sip bubbles and enjoy fresh macrons made by Trophy Cupcakes while you shop.  Also, another local treasure, Morning Song Farm, will be having a pop-up shop from 11-2 selling beautiful wreaths to adorn your doors this holiday season!

img_1737

Queen Anne Dispatch

My favorite local boutique to discover stylish and unique finds for your wardrobe, home, and gift list. Owned by sisters who grew up in the Queen Anne neighborhood, the ‘Dispatch’ has become a place for friends to gather as well as shop due to the fun parties they host throughout the year.  I’m shopping here for special holiday attire, cozy knits, jewelry, and candles and fragrance for hostess and teachers gifts…and socks!  Shop today and buy 2 SmartWool socks for the price of one.  Their “hidden socks” are seriously a game-changer; they don’t slip and keep my feet warm while hidden under my sneakers and boots (you can see more here).

p1150450Kari Gran

One of my favorite green beauty products happens to be lovingly hand poured right here in Seattle! Shop this weekend and receive 15% off Kari Gran’s entire product line of organic skin care (including an amazing sunscreen) and mineral makeup.  My most favorite Kari Gran product is their lip whip; a moisturizing, all-natural lip balm that comes in a variety of beautifully saturated colors (the new ‘Suji Red’ is already in my shopping cart!).  You can also stop in and try their products for yourself at their newly renovated retail space located across from Lake Union at 1735 Westlake Avenue, open Saturday from 12-4pm.

Buki

A ‘Wardrobe Revolution’ is being created right here in the Emerald City.  Buki is a sportswear line designed for the stylish man and woman on the go.  Buki’s breathable, fiber technology offers thermoregulation to keep you comfortable from the boardroom to boarding a plane (did I mention this knitwear does not wrinkle and is machine washable?!).  You can see more of my reviews of Buki in my previous posts (here and here) and visit their Pop-Up shop located in downtown Seattle, just north of Nordstrom on 6th Avenue.

img_5660One Seattle small business is particularly close to my heart.  If you happen to be in need of motorcycle repair, come visit my family’s business Moto Shed, where you can “wrench on your bike” or have one of our professionals do it.  Motoshed is located in lower Queen Anne off of Nickerson; offering motorcycle service and storage.  Coming soon, you can even grab a cup of coffee at the cafe!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.  As always, thanks for reading! ~Jenn

How-To: Holiday Shop for Cyber Deals Online

November 22, 2016

Online shopping black friday salesIt’s the time of year to start preparing for the online deals that have already started to crop up on the Internet.  ‘Black Friday’ has seemed to have crept into Thanksgiving and even earlier this week! And, of course, there’s ‘Cyber Monday’ now too.  Rather than get distracted by all of the chatter online, it’s important to prepare in advance…your wallet and shopping list will benefit! Below are some simple tips to keep your online shopping on track:

  1. Make your list and check it twice. It’s so easy to overspend when your purchase is simply a click away! Instead, take inventory of what you may need (think: holiday parties, winter activities, home decor, and even travel plans!). Make your gift list and set a budget. Family, friends, teachers, hostess gifts, your hair stylist, garbage collectors, mailmen, and more!
  2. Subscribe to mailing lists to ensure that you are receiving retailers’ sale notifications in advance.
  3. Search for promo codes prior to clicking the “purchase” button. Coupon Cabin, Retail-Me-Not, Deals Plus, and even Groupon are all great options.
  4. Ask your preferred retailers to price match, if you find a product for less elsewhere. They want your business and will likely agree.
  5. Think outside of the box when making your gift lists.  Consider experiences such as travel, dining, classes, and other adventures.  Subscription boxes are also a fun idea and there are options for everyone on your list (beauty, wine clubs, fitness, cigars, even maple syrup!)

Shopping Cyber Week Deals

Check back in later this week because I’ll be sharing deals from some of my favorite sites.  I’m also preparing gift lists to help get your Christmas shopping wrapped up in time for the holiday!

Thanks for reading! ~Jenn

Special Occasion Prep 101

November 21, 2016

Holiday Party StyleThe occasion for me to really dress up is so rare that I honor the opportunity by putting forth my best effort at getting ready.  Finding the right outfit is critical, of course. I wore this look last week for a ‘Black & White’ gala hosted by Seattle Magazine to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.  While I love to get dressed-up, I really don’t like being given a strict dress code; so I set forth to find a dress that fit within the guidelines, yet would be sure to stand out.how to prepare for special occasionsJust as important as the perfect dress, is getting dolled up for the special occasion.  When wearing your finest, no ordinary hair style and makeup will do! Prepping for events (including vacations) takes thoughtful planning.

First, always start with your manicure and pedicure.  Nails need time to dry properly, but I follow with a spray tan, so getting your nails done first is imperative.  You don’t want to soak or be exposed to water immediately following a tan.  And, especially if you get any scrub or exfoliation treatment with your manicure or pedicure (which I definitely recommend!), you will scrub off your new spray tan.

With regards to spray tan, I only recommend a custom air brush tan (rather than a booth or, heaven forbid, a tanning bed!).  A skilled spray tan technician will customize your bronzed glow and ensure that the tan is evenly distributed.  Of course, you have some homework to do prior to your tan:

  1. Exfoliate really well prior to your appointment (this includes shaving or waxing)
  2. Do not apply lotion or makeup prior to your appointment, clean and bare skin is the best
  3. Wear loose fitting garments following your appointment to avoid any rubbing and odd discoloration
  4. Avoid water for 8-10 hours

Scotch & Soda silk jacquard maxi dressspecial occasion beauty prepholiday party attireholiday party hair and makeupThe final step, reserved for the day of the occasion, is hair and makeup.  You’ve made the effort to find something special to wear for an event, don’t squander the opportunity to complete your look with polished hair and makeup. Getting a blow out or your hair styled for an event can take an ensemble from good to great.  In addition, a makeup artist can skillfully apply makeup that you may not have available in your ‘everyday repertoire.’ An evening event is the perfect occasion to wear a more smokey eye and/or try a bold lip. If you’re dressing for a special night out, you want your makeup to compliment and complete your look.Festive manicureHoliday formal attireA special “Thank You” to Apollo Nails & Spa, Rainglow Airbrush Tanning & Swink Style Bar for the fantastic services I mention above.  If you are in the Seattle area, I would highly recommend all of these salons.  I frequent each regularly and continue to receive excellent service in addition to feeling beautiful upon the completion of my visit.

Thank you for reading! Check back this week as I begin to prepare (and plan to share) my holiday shopping lists, including “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” deals not to be missed.  I’m also planning to highlight my favorite Seattle shops in support of “Small Business Saturday;” however, I enjoy shopping local all year long. ~Jenn

I greeted the new year feeling inspired with a renewed intention for my account; to share with you the goodies I love, wear, try. Unfiltered and honest. That’s what I’m here for. But then...2021 arrived feeling much like her older sister, 2020. Instead, I’ve avoided a lot of social media; choosing to tune into various news outlets and into my family. So, HERE WE ARE. A post proving that I got dressed yesterday, wearing some of my new favorites (these @flamingosshoes white boots!) and steady stand-bys (year 2 wearing this @notmondaymercantile beanie on repeat). I took the kids out after school to run a couple of errands and connect with a business I love to support; we made plans for a spring share. Man, it felt good to get out! And now, I’m posting early before I’ve read the morning news. So, it’s happened.

Please stay safe, remain respectful, and true to yourself. Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you all but enjoyed a nice long break. Heading back home after some snow time and I’m feeling re-energized (for now). Isn’t it funny how a change in the calendar can make you feel different? Are you a “new year, new you” kinda gal or more indifferent? I do like a good reset. Even though we’ll be doing more of the same early this year, I’m feeling more optimistic. For now. Cheers to 2021!

Also, posted in stories a nearly identical photo of us from last January at the top of @schweitzer_mountain. While the photos look the same, it’s fun to think that we now are Sandpoint homeowners! A positive outcome of 2020. #newyearonthemountain #snowbest #schweitzermountain #skifamily
Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all the boxes this year. Thinking of everyone not able to spend time with loved ones this year. I’m so grateful for our little family but really missing my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, my in-laws. Over a year seems far too long to be apart; but we all need to continue to be safe. It matters. #christmassweater #christmas2020 #staysafestayhome #vintagesweater

Like the new-to-me homemade marshmallow recipe, @thekirstyfiles and I have the pleasure of bringing to you in partnership with @pacific_place. We encourage you to invite a few pals to a zoom date, pop a bottle of bubbly, and create these delicious confections together. I promise they’re relatively fool proof (I pulled them off!) AND a sugar-high afternoon spent with friends (even virtually) will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Tune in to Pacific Place’s IGTV or YouTube to see the full tutorial, including my gaff when my marshmallow began moving into the “hard ball” territory (note: this recipe does require a candy thermometer and the ability to read it!). The belly laughs, chit chat, and groans (as we tried on a number of jeans) provided the escape from reality that I needed. Other things I love? Soft luxury cashmere, designer denim that fits like a glove, and packable hats (yes, packable!). All can be found @willaseattle; a small, women-owned boutique located in the heart of the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle. Be sure to check out our stories as @thekirstyfiles and I share holiday-perfect gifts for your sister, mother, girlfriends...yourself! Lucky for Kirsty and I, our husbands also know the lovely owner, Liz (and she has our wishlists on file)!

Continued chronicles of dressing stylishly for you Continued chronicles of dressing stylishly for yourself, aka #stayathomestyle. Sure, 2020 may be the year of the sweatpant (combined with a sleeping bag-like coat, as seen here). And yes, a mask chain is this year’s hottest accessory. BUT I still take care to actually get dressed each day. And while lipstick may no longer be a part of my daily routine (I mean, was it ever??), it’s still important to be pulled together..if only for my own mental health.
