When styling clients, I get a lot of questions about cuffing. Mostly “how” but sometimes “when” and “why” too.
First, I believe that cuffing is an important part in making your fashion choices become your style. Cuffing can transform a simple button-down top and jeans ensemble into a look. Obviously, I am a huge fan.
Of course, there is the straight-forward roll cuff. This is pretty easy for jeans, because it tends to stay more easily with a thicker fabric. In essence, you make the first roll the width of the desired cuff and then roll again.
Look how great the cuff looks?! In particular, I like to show a little bit of skin above an ankle bootie. It makes the look a little more dynamic – less predictible.

A little more tricky, but with way better staying-power, is the “French Cuff.” In particular, this type of cuff is great for sleeves because it is less likely to unravel than the typical roll.
First, you create a large fold – it should hit where you ultimately want your cuff to end.
Next you fold again, essentially folding the cuff in on itself.

You can do the same with jeans, as demonstrated by Kirsty.
Make one large cuff. Then cuff again, folding the cuff in on itself.
There may be some adjustment required. I like the cuff to look a little more sloppy, it gives off an I’m-not-trying-too-hard, yet you just look awesomely put-together vibe. See below.
The French cuff may require a bit more practice (and maybe team work), but it is definitley my go-to for sleeves.
Happy cuffing! As always, thanks for reading. Please leave a comment with your favorite cuff ideas or any cuffing questions. ~Jenn & Kirsty
