Last month I had the pleasure of receiving a personal introduction to Filson’s new fall and spring lines by Aude Tabet, Director of Product Design & Development. Now when I say “personal” what I really mean is that I showed up very late (read: closing time) to an event, and Aude was gracious enough to give me an overview of her beautiful creations.
Filson is a Seattle institution; outfitting outdoor enthusiasts with quality performance clothing and accessories since 1897. Many of their products are made in Seattle, most everything is made in the United States. In fact, if you visit Filson’s new retail store located on 1st Avenue South in Seattle, you can see many of their signature bags and luggage being made on the first floor as you walk upstairs to the retail space!
Aude was sure to specify that, while Filson’s women’s apparel is designed to flatter a woman’s figure, it is function that is at the forefront of Filson’s designs. This means quality materials paired with designs that allow for performance in the outdoors. For more than 100 years, Filson has remained true to it’s heritage by designing beautifully made, performance outdoors wear.
During my evening with Aude, I was struck by her varied experience in the fashion industry – designing for the likes of Coach and, most recently, launching Marc by Marc Jacobs. I was intrigued by her marriage of functionality and design, all the meanwhile remaining true the tradition of this historic brand. You can read more about Aude’s career and move from NYC to the Pacific Northwest in Vogue.
Functionality aside, I love the addition of the colorful plaid to Filson’s classic ‘Cruiser’ jacket. And Filson’s knitwear is top notch. Amazingly soft and flattering, yet durable; this turtleneck looks chic paired with your street wear, yet is functional enough to meet any challenges you may face braving the outdoors this fall and winter.
