Many of you may remember the “fanny pack” of the late ’80’s/early ’90s. Perfect for wandering tourists, hurried commuters, and “dorky” parents who necessitated the hands-free bag movement. I remember my parents purchasing a fanny pack in advance of a family vacation – it was required to store our traveler’s checks (do those even still exist??). My dad, a fashion visionary, also pioneered the Teva sandal in my household. And, while a functional shoe, the style didn’t really catch-on in my circle. I digress…
The “fanny pack” has been rebranded as the belt bag and, seemingly, it’s everywhere this season. I must admit, I was a bit weary of this trend when it first came on the scene. As I mentioned above, with regards to anything my dad was “rocking” decades ago, I’m generally reluctant to try. However, once I spied this convertible bag in a favorite Seattle boutique, I became a convert.
This TAH bag boasts an elegant design, adjustable straps, and a front flap over a convenient wallet feature. Plus (and this is what sold me), it can be worn in a number of ways! As pictured here as a belt, the strap adjusts to be worn as a shoulder bag, and it comes with a long strap to convert to a crossbody bag. Finished with solid brass hardware and a decorative leather tassel, and this style is classic yet on-trend all at the same time.
I’ve worn this belt bag over sweaters and coats; loving how it gives me a waist when paired with an oversized fit. The belt bag is so easy to wear casually, perfect for shopping as you run your holiday errands. But it’s also so chic when dressed up. I’m wearing this look for all of my holiday events – two hands free to hit the buffet table, yet it’s beautiful structure compliments a dressier look.
It’s been awhile, but in an effort to illustrate my new favorite bag’s versatility, Kirsty and I are bringing back a fan favorite – “Four-Way Friday.” We’re styling this bag four different ways, both casually and dressy, to demonstrate just how easy, classic and chic a belt bag can be. You may start as a skeptic (as I did), but by the end of the week, you may just be a fan too! So, tune in Thursday as I share another look and the story of TAH bags. It’s a Pacific Northwest, women-owned business…and a brand I am thrilled to introduce you to.
In the meantime, skip on over to Kirsty’s blog and check out her first look.
{outfit details} belt bag: TAH (c/o) | skirt: Anthropologie (only blue available) | sweater: Sundry (purchased at Foundation) | heels: Sam Edelman | earrings: Baleen (found at Queen Anne Frame)
This outfit is perfect for holiday events. The gold detailing, in addition to the sweater’s message, is an appropriate nod to the season. And this is my new favorite skirt! Aside from the iridescence of the raspberry colored velvet, it has an elastic waist (enough said). Finally, an embellished shoe makes the outfit festive and polished while remaining totally easy and comfortable.
See you back here on Thursday for a more casual look featuring my new belt bag. Thanks for reading! ~Jenn
