It’s that time of year again…gigantic peonies, sun-ripened strawberries, and artisan ice cream can be found at your local farmers markets. My absolute favorite family activity is heading to my local market and discovering the beautiful array of farm fresh fruits and seasonal vegetables available (not to mention fresh-cut flowers, local cheeses, and Washington apple cider!) There are several markets in the Seattle area that are open year-round (Ballard Farmers Market pictured here). My neighborhood market, Queen Anne Farmers Market, opens this Thursday thru mid-October. An awesome assortment of food trucks can be found, in addition to local farm stands. If you’re local to Seattle, it’s not to be missed (I never do)!
The first of the cherries…we couldn’t be more excited! These never make it home from the market.
I’m not going to lie…taking kids to the market can be a challenging endeavor. They never want to stay and linger as long as I do and we most definitely run out of good behavior more often than not (maybe it’s the crash following the mini donuts?!). However, my hope is that I instill a desire to know where their food comes from and inspire healthy eating habits (mini donuts aside).
My loot. 2 bouquets of peonies…I couldn’t choose just one!
