This past weekend friends and family celebrated my niece’s wedding at a beautiful party in my sister’s backyard. It was the perfect setting: my sister is a master gardener with fruit trees and flowers aplenty with a well-manicured lawn. In addition, imagine large paper lanterns, soft guitar music and delicious refreshments. A fun fete in honor of a wonderful couple. Congratulations Kelly & Rob!
I’ve just finished a major closet refresh, which includes assessing what I have been wearing…rather, what I have NOT been wearing. I either sell or donate pieces that are not in rotation and, most importantly for this shopaholic, make a habit of “wearing what I’ve got” rather than purchasing new clothes. This dress is a perfect example of WWIG…a J.Crew Factory purchase from a couple of years ago. One of those: “who doesn’t need a dress…and at this price?” But when it sat idle in my closet, it became an expensive purchase. In the spirit of WWIG, I dusted the dress off and made it current by adding my favorite belt. So thrifty, I’m really quite proud of myself!
Shoes: Sam Edelman Gigi Sandal
Dress {J.Crew Factory 2012} Similar: J.Crew Factory | Betsey Johnson | BB Dakota
Belt {Anthropologie 2013} Similar: Anthropologie | Free People

Stay tuned for more on “wearing what I’ve got” (rather what YOU’VE got) including tips for purging items from of your closet and ideas for updating pieces you keep in the rotation. Thanks for reading!
Oh…and this was my date for the evening. What better way to break the ice at a wedding than a rousing game of tag?! We had a fabulous mom-and-son weekend just the two of us; visiting with our family, having some semi-serious conversations and going on many “big kid” adventures. While we missed the girls and dad back home in Seattle, it was wonderful to spend time just the two of us.
