Have you ever decided to host a last minute party? And…invite 150 people you may not know?!
My friend Jamie is a fellow small business owner who recently opened Rainglow, Seattle’s newest airbrush tanning studio. Together we decided to host an open house to celebrate the opening of her studio and to highlight several of spring’s key trends. Thus, The Spring Fashion Fete at Rainglow was born.
Now…we came up with this idea about a month ago. And, between our busy schedules it was either going to be the end of April or last Sunday, March 16th. A born procrastinator, I knew that the additional weeks would not translate into me being better prepared. Plus, we were both eager to show off all of the refreshing spring styles that are currently hitting the stores, not-to-mention get people into Rainglow for a pre-spring break bronze. Therefore, we both jumped in with two feet and the resulting party was a fantastic hit!
Now…let’s talk some fashion. I chose two key spring trends: Nautical Stripes and Floral Prints. I dressed a mannequin in each trend with corresponding racks stocked with other striped or floral pieces pulled from 8 retailers; varying from department stores to national retailers and local boutiques. Finally, I had an additional rack stocked with “10 Spring Essentials” including:
Slouchy Tees: Madewell, Bobi, Nordstrom
Lived-In Denim: Zara, Madewell, Citizens of Humanity
Dressy Sweatshirts: Kenzie, Nordstrom
Easy One-Pieces: Gap, C&C California, Nordstrom
Feminine Blouses: Joie, Anthropologie
Military-Style Jackets: Madewell, H&M, Current/Elliott
Relaxed Pants: Aritzia, Free People, Soft Joie
D’Orsay Shoes: Enzo Angiolini, Nordstrom
Stand-Out Clutches: Nordstrom, Clare Vivier
Playful Accessories: Nordstrom, Gap, TOMS
As with any party, we had a village to help us prepare the night before and morning of the event. From food preparation to garment steaming, errands and coffee delivery to garment rack assembly, we had a team to pull the last minute details together. Jamie and I owe some big favors to several of our closest friends!
As you can imagine, it is a relief to have the stress of party planning and preparation behind us. But, of course, we are already planning our next shin-dig – taking into account our newly-learned best practices!
Thank you to all who attended the event and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for reading.
