Well, I’ve fallen in love. This beautiful, caramel-color suede jacket immediately caught my eye when shopping at Filson last month, and I was just as pleased with the fit when I tried it on (in the middle of the store – for all to experience/witness my ecstasy!). I continue to obsess over bombers, which remain on trend this fall and winter. The shorter style pairs easily with both relaxed denim and dressier skirt and trouser options. Here, I’ve added the topper to a classic jean (albeit embellished jeans) and heel combo.
I get a lot of questions about suede, especially from my fellow Seattlites. The truth is, suede is nothing to fear. Just like leather, if you treat and care for it appropriately, you can wear your suede throughout the fall and winter…and for years to come!
Personally, I prefer suede to leather. I love the rich texture and dimension. Most suede is already treated; however, I simply spray with two coats of suede spray prior to wear (allowing it to dry between treatments). Then, just like leather, make sure that the suede is cleaned and dry prior to storage. After a particularly wet outing, wipe the suede down with a dry cloth and ensure that they are dry. You can also brush with a suede brush or an eraser-like tool to remove any scuffs and maintain the beautiful texture. And, just like leather, you should avoid wear suede on particularly wet days and don’t step in those puddles (duh)! And while sharing my tried and true style secrets, let’s talk about leopard. I have had these pumps for literally ages, yet they continue to come out of my closet when my outfit both needs a little umpf or a neutral shoes. Isn’t it interesting that an animal print can be both a show stopper and seemingly go with everything? I think it’s both the classic shape of this shoe and the timeless print that continue to make them a favorite. And I love how they transform a more potentially rugged or casual outfit here into something special.
