This dress is a testament to the fact that you don’t have to spend a million bucks to feel like the belle of the ball. With holiday entertaining season upon us, I’m sharing two looks this week that are festive and special yet don’t break the bank!
This first look comes to you courtesy of Asos. I’ve shared this gem of a shopping site before when looking for budget-friendly special occasion wear. I don’t want to spend a fortune on a dress I may wear once or twice a season (or ever). Yet I want to look chic, on-trend, and stand-out from the crowd. Asos is sure to fulfill all of my desires. My only recommendation is to order multiple sizes, as many of their garments are sized with UK sizing and can also be inconsistent. With free and speedy shipping and returns (and frequent sales), you can order with ease.
Now about this dress…I continue to lust over everything velvet. The rich color, dimension, and texture seem to get me every time! Everything other fabric just seems so flat now. And thankfully, velvet continues to be everywhere this season – from shoes to hats, blazers to dresses. In particular, I’m loving this turquoise color. While black is universally flattering, it’s so much more fun to choose an alternative; especially for a dressy event when most everyone brings out their LBDs from their closets. And, the draped kimono sleeves and belt have such a chic yet comfy feel (not to mention I could wear a normal bra!). The skirt portion was a bit snug, as the material doesn’t have any stretch in it. I would recommend ordering your normal size but be aware that the fabric does not give (this could account for the $70 price tag!)
{outfit details}
dress: Asos
earrings: Anthropologie
purse: Milly (old)
shoes: Sam Edelman (oldies but goodies)
I find style inspiration everywhere – especially among my stylish friends and other bloggers. My friend Lisa first donned this velvet number and I immediately fell in love (and texted her with ordering questions). Check out her blog (and lustworthy style) over on West Fulton Street.
Stay tuned as I’ll bring you another dressy, wallet-friendly outfit on Friday. Thanks for reading! ~Jenn
