Previous Friday Favorite posts have featured 5 favorite picks within a trend or style that I’m “Lovin.” This week, the focus is on 5 simple tricks, tips, and/or products that can keep you feeling fashionable, chic, and put-together no matter what life may throw your way.
We’re all busy – demanding careers, family, hobbies, social and philanthropic commitments can make you feel like you are running from one thing to the next. With this in mind, I asked several of my perpetually polished pals to contribute some of their favorite tips for looking pulled-together when life is anything but.
1) Keep your favorite lip gloss or lipstick in the car. At first, I thought: “why waste your favorite lip gloss on the van?!” (really, I do drive a van). But, it’s actually a genius idea considering how often you may change purses, just grab your wallet or, simply need to look glam-in-the-van. This tip has come in handy too many times for me to count! And, while you’re creating a stash for your glove compartment, throw some tweezers in there too. Nothing like the sunshine reflecting in your rear view mirror to see those stray hairs (I was thinking brows…but any unwanted facial hair!). {Tip courtesy of C. Wong}
2) Stock up on Sephora Universal Lip Liner. This is a truly revolutionary product…I’m ashamed I only found out about this one recently. Instead of investing in lip liner to match each of your colorful lipsticks, this wax-based liner goes on clear and keeps any color lipstick from straying outside your lip line. If lip liner then lipstick seemed like too much hassle because of too many products, you can now wear your bright shades with abandon! {Tip courtesy of Kirsty}
3) Store your go-to accessories near the door. So many of my clients marvel at the addition of accessories. One of the keys to accessorizing a look is to have your jewelry, bags, scarves, and hats accessible – so that you can see and actually wear them. Particularly since these are often the last items you add to complete your look, it’s helpful to store your favorites by the door or in a location that is within your daily routine, so that you can grab-and-go.
4) Maximize your toothbrush. Ok, maybe not the same one that you’re currently using to polish your pearly whites…but a toothbrush can be your ultimate multi-tasker. Use a clean toothbrush to exfoliate your lips prior to applying bright lipstick, or spritz with hairspray to comb brows and tame flyaways (I do this everyday; my husband thinks it’s bizarre while I congratulate myself on my resourcefulness).
5) Invest in Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. I confess – I hate washing my hair and try to do so as infrequently as possible (to be fair, it’s not the act of washing but the blowdrying that I loath). This product is a miracle, it gives second (or third…or fourth) day hair new life by adding volume and disguising oil. It also looks great on freshly-washed hair to create some texture and add dimension. If you don’t have your spray, I also use baby powder in a pinch…but this may only work for lighter-color hair. {Tip courtesy of Jacqueline}
