Nordstrom Cardholder Perks: Triple Point Rewards

September 21, 2016

_129486691File this post under the “Shopping Wisdom” tab.  As a Nordstrom cardholder (and there are several options available: retail, debit, and visa), the most significant perk is that you earn Nordstrom “notes” or money towards future purchases.  Ordinarily you accumulate one point for every dollar that you spend; receiving a $20 note for every 2,000 points.  However, there are several shopping events throughout the year where you can earn bonus points.  September 21-25 is one such event, when you get triple points on every purchase you make with your Nordstrom card at Nordstrom, The Rack, and on HauteLook.  Basically Nordstrom is paying you to shop in their store!

In anticipation of triple reward days, I have been storing my most lusted after items in my “wish list” – waiting to purchase during this event so that I can get more money back (I plan to apply the notes I earn towards my Christmas list – see, I’m thinking of others!).  I’ve shared this trick in the past: I “wish list” items online and revisit to check if they have gone on sale and confirm that it is something that I still “must have.”  Then, during these types of events, I simply move the items that are on the top of the list into my shopping cart and I’m done.  New clothes, accessories, and make-up refresh on the way to my home and new notes for the bank!

Curious what’s on my wish list?  See below.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Work It

July 15, 2016

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Work Wear

The Nordstrom Anniversary sale began yesterday for Nordstrom cardholders.  This sale is an excellent opportunity to score new fall merchandise at discounted prices!  I shop this sale to score designer items that I wouldn’t ordinarily pay full price for and to stock-up on my wardrobe workhorses.  As such, this is the time to refresh your work attire in preparation for the new season.

A sampling of my favorite pieces are below.  I’ve seen all of these in-store and have pulled many for my clients.  Rich hues always dominate fall fashion and I’m loving all of the burgundy featured in the sale (a perfect color to wear as an accessory).  Also, luxe fabrics and varying textures continue to be a trend for fall.

Black, White & Blue

I’ve been living in black and white lately – maybe it’s the transition from summer’s bright hues in preparation for the darker shades that fall brings.  If you follow my outfit posts on Instagram, you’ll see my variations on this outfit theme of late.  I’ve also been working more this month, which means fewer jeans and tees and more “professional” wear.  A silk top, such as this one, is a perfect transition piece because it is demure yet keeps you cool even in these lingering warm, early fall days.

Essential to tonal dressing (or really any outfit) is adding a pop of color and/or texture with accessories.  Here I add interest with the blue shoe and a bit of sparkle and edge with the statement necklace, worn on the outside of the blouse.  Finally, the clutch adds more texture and, because it is in the same color pallet as the outfit, it all seems to make sense.  In essence, your accessories should be telling the same story as the rest of your outfit.

Friday Favorites: It’s a Man’s World

September 12, 2014

Borrowed-from-the-boys styling continues to be a huge trend this fall as store shelves are stocked with menswear-inspired favorites like the oxfords, fedora and pleated trousers below.  When trying this look, be sure to mix in feminine pieces for an interesting contrast that keeps your outfit from being too androgynous.  For example, pile on delicate necklaces with a classic button-down shirt, slip into a sassy pair of pumps with the pleated trousers or wear a flirty skirt with the lace-up oxford shoes.  Although these pieces are classic, it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun!

What’s In MY Closet: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

July 21, 2014

Last week I posted my top picks of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – the best of the best, the cream of the crop.  However, many of you are curious what ended up in my own closet.  I have to admit, I was curious too; as I was hastily shopping for myself between appointments and, with my busy shopping schedule and a weekend trip away, I have not had a chance until today to unpack my sale shopping bags.

As you review my finds, keep in mind that I have a “healthy-sized” wardrobe full of jeans and sweaters.  Given that I dress pretty casually on a daily basis, I wasn’t in the market for any professional wear and I tried to keep my 50+ jean collection in mind when trying on the sale denim.  Notice; however, that I didn’t apply the same principle when trying on shoes!

Joie Suede Peep-Toe Bootie
NARS Bright Pink Lip/Nails Collection

As stated in my previous post, these Joie suede peep-toe booties are such a sexy shoe.  I’m planning on wearing mine with everything from cuffed jeans and a blazer for day, to a short dress or a long maxi skirt for dressing up.  The only possible negative is that I will have to remember to pedicure my toes during the winter!  Luckily, I also scored the NARS bright pink lip/nail collection – perfect for some color now and a pop of pink against all of the black and grey I find myself wearing when the weather becomes cooler.

This BCBGeneration quilted anorak is the perfect casual yet chic jacket – I plan on getting a lot of wear out of this both while out and about and while waiting on the sidelines at the playground.  And, at $130 it doesn’t break the bank!

Hudson High Rise Skinny Jeans
Aquatalia Moto Boot
Leith Slouchy Tee
Halogen Long Cardigan

A true denim connoisseur, I tried to exercise restraint by only considering pairs unlike any that I already own (imagine that?!).  These Hudson high-rise skinnies are so soft and almost fit like a legging.  Although brown, I imagine them being very versatile – I plan on wearing mine as I would my standard grey jeans.  Paired with black booties, they’re an edgy alternative to blue jeans yet not as bright as other colored denim.  I tried them on with my new Aquatalia moto boots and paired them with this awesomely slouchy Leith tee and Halogen long cardigan – it’s just the look I’m going for.  Truth-be-told, if it weren’t in the mid-80’s today, I probably would have kept this outfit on.

Equipment Plaid Silk Blouse
Eileen Fischer Alpaca Vest

I am so excited to wear this Equipment Plaid Silk Shirt, a more refined take on the grunge look that has continued to be a huge trend.  The shirt is long enough to wear with leggings, yet the silky material keeps it feminine and the silhouette is narrow.  Also awesome with my new jeans and moto boots!  Throw on my new Eileen Fischer Alpaca Vest over the top for a perfectly edgy yet feminine look.

Loeffler Randall ‘Rider’ Clutch
See by Chloe Hobo Bag

I was really impressed by Nordstrom’s selection of handbags this year.  I had difficulty narrowing down my selections but I have been eyeing variations of this Loeffler Randall clutch for sometime.  In particular, I love the two-tone color with the mixed print and the snake-embossed texture.  Plus, the boxy shape is unique among the other clutches in my collection.  I also snapped up this See by Chloé hobo bag.  The handle appears short in the photos; however, it is actually the perfect length for both shoulder wear and holding on your arm or in your hand.  Act fast, these are sure to be gone soon!

Halogen Studded-Shoulder Sweater
Rag & Bone Newbury Bootie

Sweaters paired with skinnies and booties have been my go-to’s for easy fall dressing.  While I tried not to buy too many (given my knit collection), I loved how the studded shoulders on this Halogen cashmere sweater made it feel unique.  Paired with my new Rag & Bone Newbury booties, this is a simple yet elegant look that I can pull together in minutes.  Now…about the booties.  I snapped these up the first day of the sale (a charcoal color was available online, the brown I snagged in the store).  While I can no longer find them on the Nordstrom site, it may be worth calling your local store or favorite sales person to search.

Nike Legendary Print Pants
MICHAEL by Michael Kors Sunglasses

I have been wanting an update to my standard workout leggings and these Nike marbled print pants fit the bill.  Likewise, I have been trying to branch out from my standard aviator glasses and actually tried on these MICHAEL by Michael Kors glasses prior to the sale.  I love it when things work out that way!

Hanky Panky Low-Rise Thongs
Voluspa Candles

Finally, an underwear refresh with these Hanky Pankys, the most comfortable thong ever.  Truly – give them a try! And, the Voluspa candles are a great price and perfect for last-minute hostess gifts.

I would love to learn what you have purchased, or are considering – please leave me a comment.  Thanks for reading!

I greeted the new year feeling inspired with a renewed intention for my account; to share with you the goodies I love, wear, try. Unfiltered and honest. That’s what I’m here for. But then...2021 arrived feeling much like her older sister, 2020. Instead, I’ve avoided a lot of social media; choosing to tune into various news outlets and into my family. So, HERE WE ARE. A post proving that I got dressed yesterday, wearing some of my new favorites (these @flamingosshoes white boots!) and steady stand-bys (year 2 wearing this @notmondaymercantile beanie on repeat). I took the kids out after school to run a couple of errands and connect with a business I love to support; we made plans for a spring share. Man, it felt good to get out! And now, I’m posting early before I’ve read the morning news. So, it’s happened.

Please stay safe, remain respectful, and true to yourself. Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you all but enjoyed a nice long break. Heading back home after some snow time and I’m feeling re-energized (for now). Isn’t it funny how a change in the calendar can make you feel different? Are you a “new year, new you” kinda gal or more indifferent? I do like a good reset. Even though we’ll be doing more of the same early this year, I’m feeling more optimistic. For now. Cheers to 2021!

Like the new-to-me homemade marshmallow recipe, @thekirstyfiles and I have the pleasure of bringing to you in partnership with @pacific_place. We encourage you to invite a few pals to a zoom date, pop a bottle of bubbly, and create these delicious confections together. I promise they’re relatively fool proof (I pulled them off!) AND a sugar-high afternoon spent with friends (even virtually) will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Tune in to Pacific Place’s IGTV or YouTube to see the full tutorial, including my gaff when my marshmallow began moving into the “hard ball” territory (note: this recipe does require a candy thermometer and the ability to read it!). Sure, 2020 may be the year of the sweatpant (combined with a sleeping bag-like coat, as seen here). And yes, a mask chain is this year’s hottest accessory. BUT I still take care to actually get dressed each day. And while lipstick may no longer be a part of my daily routine (I mean, was it ever??), it’s still important to be pulled together..if only for my own mental health.
