Last week I wrote a post called “Wardrobe ROI” which talked about how to choose investment pieces. Today I’m sharing an example of an outfit comprised of my investment pieces – several of which are years old, yet continue to withstand the test of time and truly are the workhorses of my wardrobe. These pieces were not necessarily expensive (although I thought that they were), but when I purchased them I could imagine several ways that I could wear them and for various types of occasions. Therefore, I knew that I would get good wear out of these items, not only because of the variety of ways that I could style them, but also because of their classic designs.
Start with the quintessential velvet blazer. Time and again, this piece is an outfit maker. I pull velvet out of my closet every fall and wear throughout the winter; although this plush fabric continues to have a major resurgence in popularity lately. I love the deep blue color and how it seemingly can go with everything. I’ve worn it with jeans and a tee for an elevated casual look or even over a dress for an elegant topper. And, of course, blazers make most anything look professional…like a total boss.
Below are some blazers I’m currently crushing on. On the left is a more budget-friendly choice and the right is a splurge option (both are great depending on your budget):
And oh, how I love a good leopard print?! Another major “trend” for fall, yet these have been in my closet for nearly 10 years! Because they are in a great print and a classic shape, they don’t look dated. And again, pumps can be so versatile. An obvious choice for the 9-5 but also great for a date-night look on the weekend. I love mine with jeans (of course) or this pair looks pretty awesome worn with leather skinnies. Dresses and skirts are also a “no-brainer.”
Below are some of my pony leopard picks (budget on the left and splurge on the right):
{outfit details} skirt: Alice + Olivia | blazer: Zadig & Voltaire | blouse: Gap | pumps: J.Crew (old)
So there you have it, three ways I imagined wearing my new sequin skirt! My hope is that this piece continues to be a treasure that I pull out of my closet throughout the years, as I have this blazer and these pumps.
What are your tried and true wardrobe favorites? What are you considering for your next investment piece? Be sure to leave a comment.
