Outfits: Poncho Possibilities

November 13, 2015

P1130172Not another oversized sweater…but a poncho! One of this season’s hottest trends (and warmest too), the poncho is surprisingly easy to style.  And, a stylish alternative to a blanket, yet just as comfortable.

I’m lovin’ this reversible one from Uniqlo.  I’m layering a poncho as I would a sweater or light jacket; over button-up shirts and other knits.  I’m even imagining throwing this on over a coat once the temperatures drop.  And with grey on the reverse, it’s like I have two ponchos in one!

P1130190P1130204P1130223P1130147{outfit details}
poncho: Uniqlo
shirt: Ace Delivery
jeans: Madewell (sale!!)
booties: MICHAEL Michael Kors
bracelets: guitar string bracelets (found at Queen Anne Dispatch)

P1130165Poncho possibilities are endless…add over-the-knee boots and a beanie and your look is instantly winter-weather-ready and chic!  Stay tuned for more to come, as this piece is sure to be a winter wardrobe favorite.

As always, thanks for reading. Happy Friday! ~Jenn

Anniversary Sale: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!

July 11, 2015

_10806767(1)

My fabulously fashionable friend Kirsty and I have been collaborating on selecting our favorite pieces from the Norstrom Anniversary Sale to share with our readers.  This involved staying up well past midnight Wednesday to get a first peak at the sale offerings (and maybe do a little shopping ourselves!)  Below you will find Kirsty’s favorite shoes of the sale and confessions of her shoe obsessions:

If I’m choosing my very favorite accessory for an outfit, its shoes.  I admit, my handbag is a last minute thought, jewelry does come in second, but when it comes to shoes, I ponder and pine and search.  I love shoes!  So when the sale starts, the first thing I wanna see is the shoes…give me shoes.

A great pair of shoes transforms an outfit.  In fact, keep yourself in a simple pair of jeans and tee, and just swap your shoes, the looks are endless.  Done.

So here are my picks…
Pumps

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Pumps

1. Charles David Navy Suede Classic Pump. I love this classic cut, with a slight twist of Navy, you can never go wrong with suede, in my humble opinion.

2. Sam Edelman Nude d’Orsay Pump,  A patent nude pump is a staple for your closet, the split detail on the heel and the flattering d’orsay shape have me smitten.

3. Sam Edelman Leopard Print d’Orsay Pump, I bought a very similar pair last year at the sale, and they still make me so happy, and last year they sold out quickly.

4. Jessica Simpson Teal Suede Ankle Strap, teal, ruffles, suede.  Seriously Jessica Simpson does shoes really well.  I was convinced I had every pump I want, until these babies.  These are gonna be perfect with that little black dress for holiday parties.  Or paired with skinny jeans and an awesome oversized sweater for the fall.  These are for making a statement.

Sandals

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Sandals

1. Hinge Open-Toe Wedge Bootie.  These are just so good.

2. Michael Kors Peep Toe Platform Sandal.  The black suede in front with the patent in back, and the slight platform, I love the criss-crossing straps rather than an ankle strap {gonna make ya jump jump…anyone??}.  These will give you stability while elongating your legs.

3. Enzo Ankle Strap Sandal in Cherry.  Well the color is just so darn great, but they blue and the patent silver, and even the classic black make it hard to choose.  I actually don’t have this classic shape in my closet, what is my problem??

4. Vince Ankle Strap Sandal in Fig.  Love the deep color of this shoe, with the black accent of the strap and ever so slight platform.  The lower heel makes this less intimidating to wear all the time but just as fabulous.

Flats

Nordstrom Sale Flats

1. Louise et Cie Oxford.  I can’t get enough of these.  I love that they are a “flat” but have a 1inch heel, my kind of flat.  The oxford design is so smart but the calfhair print and gold toe detail.  These might be my faves.  Think with boyfriend jeans and a white button up, or red sweater, or tee and jean jacket.

2. Stuart Weitzman Flatly Loafer.  Classic, simple, perfection in plaid.  The leopard is all gone but I like the plaid just as much, maybe it’s the 90s child in me.

3. BP Pointy-Toe Flat.  Great shape, love the two tone and the price.  So easy.

4.  Charles David Pointy-Toe d’Orsay Flat.  This cut is so smart and sophisticated to me, and flattering.

Booties

Nordstrom Sale Booties, Anniverary Sale

1. Paul Green Ankle Bootie.  Great heel, love the sweetheart cut at the ankle, super flattering.  This bootie gives you edge {I really wanted to write sauce, clearly getting loopy} without trying hard, it is so effortless and easy.

2. Timberland Boot.  Don’t know why but I am obsessing over these boots, clearly they fit my California lifestyle.

3. TOMS Desert Wedge Bootie.  Every time I see a woman in Toms booties, I love them.  And these black with texture adds sophistication.  They are easy to wear but not even close to boring.  And with a good cause.

4. Vince Camuto Bootie.  It comes in 4 colors but I have no green suede shoes.  What?  Perfect amount of structure and patina.  I think I would reach for these all winter long.

Boots

Nordstrom Sale Boots

1. Vince Camuto Tall Boot.  Great detail, I like the slight angle at the top.

2. Louise et Cie Knee High Riding Boot.  Classic and sophisticated, I love the shape of the toe and the slight texture of the leather.

3. Michael Kors Rain Boot.  They just look good don’t they?  and functional.

Sneakers {because I go to Disneyland a lot, and my back just isn’t what it used to be.}

1. Nike Internationalist.  Love this color combo and this style has major staying power.

2. Nike Free Flyknit.  Color and Texture win.

3. Rag & Bone Slip-On Sneaker.  I admit this is more than I would usually spend for a sneaker but I love the color combo and the simple effective design.

4. Vans Sk8-Hi Slim Sneaker.  If ever I was to get talked into a lace up sneaker, these are pretty darn rad.  and they zip up the back.  uh oh.

Which ones are your faves?  My list just keeps going and going.  Must narrow it down…

Happy Saturday and best of luck shopping!

Kirsty & Jenn

What I’m Lovin’: Game Day Style

October 7, 2014

Inspired by the sea of navy jerseys sported in Seattle, and by the Seahawks win this week; I’ve created a game day outfit that will keep you looking chic as you demonstrate your team pride.

1f0ab1379bbd48661f23f642ac416f9c

Seahawks Jersey: Fanatics

Under your favorite jersey, layer a cozy waffle tee for added warmth.  Then cuff your grey skinny jeans to show off your high-top sneakers, which will keep your feet comfy and dry (especially as you’re standing, climbing stairs and cheering!).  Tie a colorful flannel around your waist for color and texture (and warmth too).  Finally, finish off your look with a knit hat to keep your head warm (and to tame your mane in potential rain or snow) and add oversized glasses to protect your eyes from the sun.  And the finishing touch, a fanny pack…would you ever believe it??  This one is not only functional (hands-free and just large enough for your phone, ID, credit cards, and lip gloss) but also fashionable – the quilting adds a luxe look and it converts from waist to shoulder-wear with the addition of a chain strap.

Vans SK8-Hi Slim
Rebecca Minkoff Fanny Bag
Wilfred Hat
MICHAEL Michael Kors Aviators
Citizens of Humanity Rocket High Rise
Free People Layer Me
Rails Kendra Shirt

Sneakers: Vans
Fanny Pack: Rebecca Minkoff
Hat: Wilfred
Sunglasses: MICHAEL Michael Kors
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity
Tee: Free People
Flannel: Rails

If you’re in the market for a jersey to compliment your game day look, shop Fanatics huge selection of NFL gear.  So easy to refine your search by team, gender and item type; you’ll be game-day-ready with a few clicks of the mouse!

What are your game day must-haves? What jersey are you sporting this football season? Please be sure to leave a comment.
Thanks for reading! ~Jenn

Post inspiration by Fanatics; all ideas and opinions are my own.

What I’m Lovin’: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

July 16, 2014

This post should be titled: “Better Late Than Never”…I have been shopping the sale nearly non-stop for the past 5 days.  Sadly, I haven’t had a moment to share my favorite finds (until now) but, the plus side is that I am confident that I have seen, felt and tried nearly every item in this year’s sale.

Before I get ahead of myself, I’m talking about The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – an annual holiday for die-hard shoppers such as myself.  No really…when I had a 9-5 job, I used to take the day off, or at least the morning of the sale.  Back in “the good ole’ days,” the doors opened the first morning of the sale at 7am and eager shoppers would run through the store, willing to go “to the ropes” over designer denim and fall boots.  Now, in the more civilized world of internet shopping, Nordstrom card holders are allowed to “pre-shop” both in the stores and online a week prior to the sale opening to the general public.

Although “pre-select” shopping began nearly a week ago, there are still deals-a-plenty.  Your favorite sales person may tell you otherwise, but they restock nearly everything in preparation for the public sale opening – which is this Friday, July 18th.

Before sharing my favorite picks, let’s talk sale shopping strategy.  A huge sale, such as the Anniversary Sale, can be overwhelming (even for a seasoned shopper such as myself).  I first focus my attention on fall staples such as boots, handbags and coats, and head straight to those sections (or sort online).  I also use this sale as an opportunity to splurge on brands I wouldn’t ordinarily consider at full-price.  Again, knowing YOUR brands can help you refine your search.  Finally, the Anniversary Sale is a particularly great time to refresh your basics – for example, this is the only time of year that I purchase bras and underwear.

Shoes A great opportunity to snap up some fall boots at discounted prices.  These 3 shoes are but a small sampling; however, I was so impressed with this year’s selection that I couldn’t choose just one pair.  If you only have time or budget to shop one section of the sale, peruse the shoes!

Frye ‘Molly’ Boot

A solid tall boot with elastic back for an easy, classic and sleek look.  For most, these hit right under the knee and don’t have the gap issue some may experience with a zippered closure.

Joie Suede Open-Toe Bootie

The sale offers several peep-toe bootie styles and they are all pretty awesome.  I ended up taking these home because once they were on, they were differentiated as the. sexiest. shoe. ever. (period).

Nike ‘Internationalist’ Sneaker

I can’t believe these are on sale – particularly since I just bought a red pair full-price about 30 days ago! I cannot take mine off because, surprisingly, they go with everything! Don’t just stick to athletic apparel, try them with boyfriend jeans and a slouchy tee or even skinnies and an oversized sweater.  I’ve even seen chic women pairing sneakers with dresses and skirts – go for it!

Denim The Anniversary Sale generally offers great deals on designer denim.  This year’s sale brands include AG, Paige, J Brand, Mother, Rag & Bone, Hudson, Citizens of Humanity and several others.  Skinny is still a huge trend; however, there were also several boyfriend and mini-bootcut pairs to choose from as well.

 J Brand Dark Plum Skinnies

These burgundy skinny jeans can be paired with everything – black, brown, grey, taupe, chambray, and even fall’s berry tones.  I bought a similar colored pair 2 years ago and they are still one of my go-to’s.  And, so easy tucked into the Frye boot above or worn cuffed with these Steve Madden Booties.  Better yet, pair with these Leopard d’Orsay Pumps…meow!

Handbags The choices were plentiful here too.  Handbags is the one area of the sale where shopping early can be really important, if you are in the market for a designer handbag.  This year’s “It Bag” was the Chloe Marcie Bag offered in 3 colors.  Unfortunately, these were mostly snapped up the first day.  However, many great bags remain from such brands as Tory Burch, Rebecca Minkoff, Frye, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Kate Spade…to name only a few.

Loeffler Randall ‘Rider’ Clutch

I am obsessed – I have been eyeing these clutches for several months, often pulling them for many of my clients.  Such a unique yet classic look.  As you can imagine, my heart skipped a beat when I discovered it among the sale handbags this year – and for $100 less than their normal retail price!

Accessories Always worth it to browse here – beautiful sunglasses, scarves and belts at great prices.

Michael by Michael Kors Sunglasses

Another item I have had in my shopping bag…grateful I hadn’t pulled the trigger! I am a tried-and-true aviator fan but these seemed to give me the best of both worlds – the frame of a larger pair of glasses with the sleek metal sides that make the glasses lighter and don’t take up as much real estate on my face.

Nordstrom Abstract Scarf

A sale favorite – these scarves are absolutely beautiful.  The abstract colors add interest and all 4 colors offered are amazing (and a terrific deal at $32).

Sweaters There were so many great choices here – from designer brands such as Vince and Autumn Cashmere to the house brands like Trouvé and Halogen.  Although you won’t be wearing these for several more months, this sale offers cozy, luxury-feeling knits at a fraction of the cost!

Halogen Embellished Shoulder Sweater

The studs on the shoulders toughen up an otherwise classic cashmere sweater.  The taupe is lovely but for my fellow fair-skinned friends, they also offer black.  This is so easy paired with the J Brand burgundy jeans above or a chic way to add some edge to a classic pencil skirt.

Coats Last year I bought 2 winter coats at the Anniversary Sale, so I had to restrain myself.  Prices range from expensive (Burberry and Mackage) to affordable (BCBGenration and Steve Madden).  Whether you’re in the market for a lady-like car coat or an edgy quilted anorak with leather detailing, you can surely find something fabulous among the sale offerings.

_9317139(2)

Trouvé Leather Moto Jacket

This jacket is very similar in design to a much more expensive Vince leather jacket.  It is so simple and beautiful on, yet the leather is so on-trend.  I look at the leather jackets each sale because Nordstrom never disappoints.  If you are in the market for leather this fall, DO NOT miss this sale!

Professional Attire Great offerings from classics like Vince, Joie, Theory, Equipment and DVF.  This is an area where I may splurge on a finer piece that I wouldn’t ordinarily consider at full-price.  However, Halogen has many terrific items on sale this year too, including this Leather Pencil Skirt and Embellished Sweater.

_9370572(2)

Theory Silk Top

The fit is so flattering on this top with a tailored detail in the back giving the silk blouse a fabulous drape  And while a demure cut, the zippered detail adds interest and intrigue.  So easy to pair with a classic slim trouser – skip the necklace, simply add a pair of earrings and your out the door!

A few final considerations…

_9216910(2)

Hanky Panky Low-Rise Thong

A staple – try them. Enough said.

_9258586(1)

Hue Ultra Suede Leggings

The Hue Leatherette Leggings have been a sale favorite for a number of years.  The suede are a more tame version, yet equally as chic paired with booties and a tunic.  The black are classic but I bought a pair in the rich, brown color, which I plan on pairing with jewel-tone knits as the temperatures dip.

_8187918(2)

Voluspa Two-Wick Tin Candles

These make great hostess gifts – such a great deal at $10 a piece!

What are you “lovin'”? And what’s on your list for fall? I would love your feedback…have you shopped the sale? Let me know what you bought!

Thanks for reading!

Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted t Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted the new year feeling inspired with a renewed intention for my account; to share with you the goodies I love, wear, try. Unfiltered and honest. That’s what I’m here for. But then...2021 arrived feeling much like her older sister, 2020. Instead, I’ve avoided a lot of social media; choosing to tune into various news outlets and into my family. So, HERE WE ARE. A post proving that I got dressed yesterday, wearing some of my new favorites (these @flamingosshoes white boots!) and steady stand-bys (year 2 wearing this @notmondaymercantile beanie on repeat). I took the kids out after school to run a couple of errands and connect with a business I love to support; we made plans for a spring share. Man, it felt good to get out! And now, I’m posting early before I’ve read the morning news. So, it’s happened.

Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you all but enjoyed a nice long break. Heading back home after some snow time and I’m feeling re-energized (for now). Isn’t it funny how a change in the calendar can make you feel different? Are you a “new year, new you” kinda gal or more indifferent? I do like a good reset. Even though we’ll be doing more of the same early this year, I’m feeling more optimistic. For now. Cheers to 2021!

Tune in to Pacific Place’s IGTV or YouTube to see the full tutorial, including my gaff when my marshmallow began moving into the “hard ball” territory (note: this recipe does require a candy thermometer and the ability to read it!).
