Anniversary Sale: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!

July 11, 2015

_10806767(1)

My fabulously fashionable friend Kirsty and I have been collaborating on selecting our favorite pieces from the Norstrom Anniversary Sale to share with our readers.  This involved staying up well past midnight Wednesday to get a first peak at the sale offerings (and maybe do a little shopping ourselves!)  Below you will find Kirsty’s favorite shoes of the sale and confessions of her shoe obsessions:

If I’m choosing my very favorite accessory for an outfit, its shoes.  I admit, my handbag is a last minute thought, jewelry does come in second, but when it comes to shoes, I ponder and pine and search.  I love shoes!  So when the sale starts, the first thing I wanna see is the shoes…give me shoes.

A great pair of shoes transforms an outfit.  In fact, keep yourself in a simple pair of jeans and tee, and just swap your shoes, the looks are endless.  Done.

So here are my picks…
Pumps

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Pumps

1. Charles David Navy Suede Classic Pump. I love this classic cut, with a slight twist of Navy, you can never go wrong with suede, in my humble opinion.

2. Sam Edelman Nude d’Orsay Pump,  A patent nude pump is a staple for your closet, the split detail on the heel and the flattering d’orsay shape have me smitten.

3. Sam Edelman Leopard Print d’Orsay Pump, I bought a very similar pair last year at the sale, and they still make me so happy, and last year they sold out quickly.

4. Jessica Simpson Teal Suede Ankle Strap, teal, ruffles, suede.  Seriously Jessica Simpson does shoes really well.  I was convinced I had every pump I want, until these babies.  These are gonna be perfect with that little black dress for holiday parties.  Or paired with skinny jeans and an awesome oversized sweater for the fall.  These are for making a statement.

Sandals

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Sandals

1. Hinge Open-Toe Wedge Bootie.  These are just so good.

2. Michael Kors Peep Toe Platform Sandal.  The black suede in front with the patent in back, and the slight platform, I love the criss-crossing straps rather than an ankle strap {gonna make ya jump jump…anyone??}.  These will give you stability while elongating your legs.

3. Enzo Ankle Strap Sandal in Cherry.  Well the color is just so darn great, but they blue and the patent silver, and even the classic black make it hard to choose.  I actually don’t have this classic shape in my closet, what is my problem??

4. Vince Ankle Strap Sandal in Fig.  Love the deep color of this shoe, with the black accent of the strap and ever so slight platform.  The lower heel makes this less intimidating to wear all the time but just as fabulous.

Flats

Nordstrom Sale Flats

1. Louise et Cie Oxford.  I can’t get enough of these.  I love that they are a “flat” but have a 1inch heel, my kind of flat.  The oxford design is so smart but the calfhair print and gold toe detail.  These might be my faves.  Think with boyfriend jeans and a white button up, or red sweater, or tee and jean jacket.

2. Stuart Weitzman Flatly Loafer.  Classic, simple, perfection in plaid.  The leopard is all gone but I like the plaid just as much, maybe it’s the 90s child in me.

3. BP Pointy-Toe Flat.  Great shape, love the two tone and the price.  So easy.

4.  Charles David Pointy-Toe d’Orsay Flat.  This cut is so smart and sophisticated to me, and flattering.

Booties

Nordstrom Sale Booties, Anniverary Sale

1. Paul Green Ankle Bootie.  Great heel, love the sweetheart cut at the ankle, super flattering.  This bootie gives you edge {I really wanted to write sauce, clearly getting loopy} without trying hard, it is so effortless and easy.

2. Timberland Boot.  Don’t know why but I am obsessing over these boots, clearly they fit my California lifestyle.

3. TOMS Desert Wedge Bootie.  Every time I see a woman in Toms booties, I love them.  And these black with texture adds sophistication.  They are easy to wear but not even close to boring.  And with a good cause.

4. Vince Camuto Bootie.  It comes in 4 colors but I have no green suede shoes.  What?  Perfect amount of structure and patina.  I think I would reach for these all winter long.

Boots

Nordstrom Sale Boots

1. Vince Camuto Tall Boot.  Great detail, I like the slight angle at the top.

2. Louise et Cie Knee High Riding Boot.  Classic and sophisticated, I love the shape of the toe and the slight texture of the leather.

3. Michael Kors Rain Boot.  They just look good don’t they?  and functional.

Sneakers {because I go to Disneyland a lot, and my back just isn’t what it used to be.}

1. Nike Internationalist.  Love this color combo and this style has major staying power.

2. Nike Free Flyknit.  Color and Texture win.

3. Rag & Bone Slip-On Sneaker.  I admit this is more than I would usually spend for a sneaker but I love the color combo and the simple effective design.

4. Vans Sk8-Hi Slim Sneaker.  If ever I was to get talked into a lace up sneaker, these are pretty darn rad.  and they zip up the back.  uh oh.

Which ones are your faves?  My list just keeps going and going.  Must narrow it down…

Happy Saturday and best of luck shopping!

Kirsty & Jenn

It’s time again for the bargain shopper’s annual holiday – THE Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Years before I was working around the clock shopping for clients and choosing my favorites for this blog, I was racing through the doors at 7:00 am in an effort to score amazing deals on fall denim, boots, and coats.

Times have changed but the amazing prices on fall merchandise from designer brands remain.  Now Nordstrom cardholders can shop in advance of the store doors opening the sale to the public on Friday, July 17th.

What I’m Lovin’: Current Obsessions

May 1, 2015

I’m always on the hunt for something – I like to think this can explain my credit card bill; the delicate balance between ordering, returning, and purchasing. Lucky for you, I can do the leg-work for you! (And save you the cardiac arrest when your statement comes).

Flowy-Trench: For lack of a better descriptor, this jacket is a lighter, less-structured version of the trench.  Trenches are classic and timeless.  However, I want to wear this looser version casually, with the sleeves pushed-up, all throughout spring and summer (I do live in Seattle, after all).  I have been on the search – finding just the right material (and price) has proved tricky.  Some were too flimsy with a synthetic feel to the fabric.  Others were too structured or thick, while others were out of my price range.  Enter Topshop, my go-to for inexpensive, trend fashion.  Perfectly slouchy trench found…on to the next search!

Topshop

High-Waist Swim: This is a search that I personally have had to give up on…finally.  But not for lack of trying to make this happen! I have literally tried at least 10 suits from high to low, searching for just the right one.  I love the retro look, classic but simple design.  Balance the proportion of the larger bottom with a smaller top like a bandeau.  Avoid looking too 1950’s pinup by forgoing a classic underwire or push-up halter style.  A mismatching top paired with differing bottoms also looks effortlessly cool.

Shoshanna Retro Swim | Mara Hoffman (top photo)

Essential Oil: I have been using various oils to moisturize my skin for sometime now – trying argon, maracuja, and even coconut oils.  In particular, I love this mixture of essential oils from a local Seattle skin care line.  This all natural blend is completely preservative and chemical-free – only plant and essential oils blended with vitamin E.  The oil has a great slippery feel, perfect for facial massage (another obsession), yet it absorbs into the skin without leaving any oily residue.  I apply both morning and night.  When getting ready for my day, I finish my skin care regime then move onto my hair, returning to do my makeup once the oil has had some time to soak into my skin.

Kari Gran Essential Serum

Peep-Toe Bootie: Surprisingly difficult to find for someone with finger-toes (just in case there are others out there). In addition to being totally on-trend, these Paul Green booties are the ultimate in comfort.  The shaft is cut flatteringly low to show off some ankle (perfect when paired with summer’s dresses and culouttes!).  And, I love the sling back, making it more sandal than traditional bootie.  All-in-all, this shoe is the perfect bootie hybrid for spring and summer (because what else pairs perfectly with your jeans and a tee?!)_9861391

 Paul Green Peep Toe Bootie

Eyebrow Pencil: In a previous “obsessions” post, I shared my newfound love of Korean beauty products.  This brow pencil is yet another k-beauty score! The “pencil” is more like a soft, waxy marker with a wide, angled tip.  I start applying at the highest point of my brow arch, where I want the most color delivered.  I then work my way out to where the hair is most sparse, towards the end of my brow.  I then lightly fill in towards the center (the part towards my nose), where I have the most hair.  Finish with an upward brush of the spooled end and your out the door with the perfectly filled-in, not-too penciled brow.  Since using this pencil, I’ve received numerous unsolicited compliments.

The Faceshop Design My Eyebrow

What are your obsessions? What are you searching for?? I’m always curious and willing to help – it could be my next feature!

Thanks for reading and happy Friday! ~Jenn

Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted t Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted the new year feeling inspired with a renewed intention for my account; to share with you the goodies I love, wear, try. Unfiltered and honest. That’s what I’m here for. But then...2021 arrived feeling much like her older sister, 2020. Instead, I’ve avoided a lot of social media; choosing to tune into various news outlets and into my family. So, HERE WE ARE. A post proving that I got dressed yesterday, wearing some of my new favorites (these @flamingosshoes white boots!) and steady stand-bys (year 2 wearing this @notmondaymercantile beanie on repeat). I took the kids out after school to run a couple of errands and connect with a business I love to support; we made plans for a spring share. Man, it felt good to get out! And now, I’m posting early before I’ve read the morning news. So, it’s happened.

Please stay safe, remain respectful, and true to yourself. Social media is a beautiful way to connect, create, and inspire...but can also be a dangerous rabbit hole of misinformation and an opportunity for people to behave in a way they ordinarily wouldn’t in person. Off my soap box. Have a lovely Friday!#wordsfrommyheart #realoutfitgram #flamingosshoes #whiteboots #notmondaymoments
Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you all but enjoyed a nice long break. Heading back home after some snow time and I’m feeling re-energized (for now). Isn’t it funny how a change in the calendar can make you feel different? Are you a “new year, new you” kinda gal or more indifferent? I do like a good reset. Even though we’ll be doing more of the same early this year, I’m feeling more optimistic. For now. Cheers to 2021!

Also, posted in stories a nearly identical photo of us from last January at the top of @schweitzer_mountain. While the photos look the same, it’s fun to think that we now are Sandpoint homeowners! A positive outcome of 2020. #newyearonthemountain #snowbest #schweitzermountain #skifamily
Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all the boxes this year. Thinking of everyone not able to spend time with loved ones this year. I’m so grateful for our little family but really missing my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, my in-laws. Over a year seems far too long to be apart; but we all need to continue to be safe. It matters. #christmassweater #christmas2020 #staysafestayhome #vintagesweater

Like the new-to-me homemade marshmallow recipe, @thekirstyfiles and I have the pleasure of bringing to you in partnership with @pacific_place. We encourage you to invite a few pals to a zoom date, pop a bottle of bubbly, and create these delicious confections together. I promise they’re relatively fool proof (I pulled them off!) AND a sugar-high afternoon spent with friends (even virtually) will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Tune in to Pacific Place’s IGTV or YouTube to see the full tutorial, including my gaff when my marshmallow began moving into the “hard ball” territory (note: this recipe does require a candy thermometer and the ability to read it!). The belly laughs, chit chat, and groans (as we tried on a number of jeans) provided the escape from reality that I needed. Other things I love? Soft luxury cashmere, designer denim that fits like a glove, and packable hats (yes, packable!). All can be found @willaseattle; a small, women-owned boutique located in the heart of the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle. Be sure to check out our stories as @thekirstyfiles and I share holiday-perfect gifts for your sister, mother, girlfriends...yourself! And while lipstick may no longer be a part of my daily routine (I mean, was it ever??), it’s still important to be pulled together..if only for my own mental health.
