Galentine’s Denim Styling

February 13, 2017

Rachel Zoe blazer and Mother denimYesterday I had the pleasure of participating in a style segment on New Day Northwest; “Stylish At Any Age: The Denim Edit” hosted by one of my most stylish friends, Lisa Cole.  Lisa is the style editor for Vanguard Seattle magazine and writes her own style blog, West Fulton Street.  I didn’t do any of the heavy lifting; I simply showed up for a mid-morning call time and did one pivot in front of the camera (and smiled a lot!).  Aside from the fabulous outfits that Lisa styled (all courtesy of a Seattle boutique, Canopy Blue), it was terrific to participate with and support a group of creative and stylish women (all of whom are small business owners).
Rachel Zoe Calla Pinstripe BlazerRachel Zoe Calla Pinstripe BlazerHow to Style Jeans for WorkIn Lisa’s segment, she highlights 5 denim trends for spring.  As seen here, I’m wearing a distressed skinny jean.  Lisa encouraged viewers (as I often do my readers), to think outside the box with their denim styling.  Rather than reach for the tried-and-true pair of sneakers, dress-up distressed jeans for a stylish, work-appropriate outfit by pairing them with a classic blazer and pumps.  The embellishments on the pumps and sparkly earrings add an extra level of glam, even elevating this ensemble to date-night.

Lisa shared more trends including winter whites, staggered hems, and custom-made, painted jeans (which I am now obsessing over!).  See all of her picks, including my “modeling debut” here: New Day Northwest

10 Best Party Dresses

December 2, 2016

_130916461Holiday entertaining season is upon us! And with events ranging from office gatherings to “black tie optional” (what does that mean, anyway??) soirees, the dress code can vary as widely as a fruit cake recipe. As such, I’m sharing my favorite stylish party dresses for every occasion on your calendar.  And many won’t break the bank! After all, you’ve got more important things to be spending on this holiday season.

Office-Party Appropriate
You can wear this dress all year-long. And navy is such a beautiful color, instead of the standard black that everyone else will likely be wearing at the party. I love the demur shape of this particular dress, but the lace adds a subtly sexy touch.

Formal
A formal occasion is really your opportunity to go all out fancy. I would recommend a long dress for a “Black Tie” event and why not amp up the glam with sparkle and color?! I love the mermaid shape of this particular dress, a classy way of playing up your shape.

Shimmer
Perfect for a daytime look or a more casual affair, the subtle glimmer isn’t as a much of a statement as full on sparkle. You could even layer this dress over a pair of tights and a pair of booties; taking your look from cubicle to happy hour!

Full-On Glitter
Truly nothings says party like sequins! I’m loving the silver ombre effect of this dress. While the length may be short, the sleeves keep the look appropriate by not showing too much skin (stick with adage of highlighting one feature…especially when you are likely to be the sparkliest in the room!)

_134240771BB Dakota

Maxi
A long dress can be so easy; you can wear comfortable shoes and your legs don’t require hose or a spray tan! I’m loving the golden goddess vibe of this particular dress and, again, it’s a shape and color you could wear to events throughout the year!

Midi
A classically pretty sheath dress in a midi-length will take you far. And I’m obsessing over everything velvet this year (can you tell??). The price point of this stunner won’t set you back, so it’s worth the trendy choice!

_133278951Felicity + Coco

Separates
You can get more mileage out of pairing separates. For example, this metallic skirt would look awesome paired with a classic white tee for a more casual event. Likewise, the cropped, boxy tank could be worn with some high-waisted cigarette pants for an evening cocktail event. Three holiday looks in one!

Jumpsuit
Jumpsuits are such a unique, comfortable and fun alternative to a holiday dress. My only caution would be drinking too much (as in, having to your the ladies room frequently). You get me??

Festive
I love a good red dress, really anytime of the year. But the holidays just scream for an opportunity to done this festive color. I’m loving the crochet detailing of this dress and the mock turtleneck pair with the mini hemline keep it out of grandma territory. Leave those ugly sweaters for someone else to wear to the party!

LBD
Who doesn’t need another black dress in their closet?! I’m loving the retro style of this dress; complete with lace detailing, full skirt and tea-length hemline.

And don’t forget the finishing touches! I shared my ‘Special Occasion’ prep tips a couple of weeks ago.  Just as important as the dress, are all of the details that make a special look come together!

Don’t forget the perfect shoes…

What I’m Lovin’: Box of Style

October 5, 2015

box-of-style-squareI’ve been accused of holding out important styling information.  Which, if you know me or read this blog regularly, I take great offense to.  Ordinarily, I am generous with my styling advice and shopping tips (anybody ever asked me to validate a trend, you probably regretted it around the 6th or 7th text!)

Sadly, however, it’s true.  I didn’t let you guys in on a big one…The Zoe Report Box of Style. I’m sorry. Not to make excuses…but, when it comes to fashion, I’m a try-anything-once kinda gal, so I wasn’t intentionally keeping something close to the chest.  I simply didn’t know you all would be interested.

The err in my ways…it is truly an amazing (AAAAA-MAZING) box of items curated by designer and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and her team of style experts.  As evidenced by the now sold out fall box below, the box ships quarterly packed with unique accessories, beauty products, and insider stylist must-have items.

boxofstyle-productarrangement-fall

Here’s how it works: you pay $100 for each box (if you buy a year subscription you save $50 – $350 annually).  Each box is guaranteed to be valued at over $300.  Only a “hero” item is revealed before the boxes ship in March, July, September, and December.  The “hero item” is generally the most mind-blowing item in the box (although the other items are all great too).

boxofstyleholiday

Next month’s “hero item” is this Alexis Bittar adjustable cocktail ring valued at $198.  There’s no telling all of the wonderful goodies that could also be included, especially since it ships near the holidays and word is Rachel and team are feeling particularly generous this year!  If you are interested, I wouldn’t wait too long to sign-up as all of the previous boxes this year have sold out.  You can register here.

Being an early adaptor, I was weary of registering for the first box (see below).  The Miansai bracelet was this boxes’ “hero item” – a bracelet I had been eyeing independently for months previous.  Instead I decided to wait to read the reviews and I waited too long!  Don’t let this be you!!

boxofstyle-productarrangement-spring

Again, reluctant to pull the trigger on the annual membership, I opted for the individual box instead (this was my attempt at being frugal!).  The summer box below was SO good that I immediately signed up for the annual subscription and have not looked back!

Hopefully you love the Box of Style as much as I do, and can find it in your heart to forgive my lack of sharing.  I now feel like I have done my part!

Once you receive your box, please leave a comment with your thoughts (or do so now, if you have already received a box). I would love to learn your feedback…even attach pictures.  We’re all in this together, after all – I promise not to forget that!

Thanks for reading (always)! ~Jenn

I know…it’s Friday, you don’t want to be thinking about what to wear to work?! However, I get so many questions about how to dress for the office once the temperatures rise, I thought that summer trouser picks would be a worthy Friday Favorites post (even if your mind is on beach wear and wedding attire).

Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted t Each day I’ve intended to post here. I greeted the new year feeling inspired with a renewed intention for my account; to share with you the goodies I love, wear, try. Unfiltered and honest. That’s what I’m here for. But then...2021 arrived feeling much like her older sister, 2020. Instead, I’ve avoided a lot of social media; choosing to tune into various news outlets and into my family. So, HERE WE ARE. A post proving that I got dressed yesterday, wearing some of my new favorites (these @flamingosshoes white boots!) and steady stand-bys (year 2 wearing this @notmondaymercantile beanie on repeat). I took the kids out after school to run a couple of errands and connect with a business I love to support; we made plans for a spring share. Man, it felt good to get out! And now, I’m posting early before I’ve read the morning news. So, it’s happened.

Please stay safe, remain respectful, and true to yourself. Social media is a beautiful way to connect, create, and inspire...but can also be a dangerous rabbit hole of misinformation and an opportunity for people to behave in a way they ordinarily wouldn’t in person. Off my soap box. Have a lovely Friday!#wordsfrommyheart #realoutfitgram #flamingosshoes #whiteboots #notmondaymoments
Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you Happy New Year my dear friends! I’ve missed you all but enjoyed a nice long break. Heading back home after some snow time and I’m feeling re-energized (for now). Isn’t it funny how a change in the calendar can make you feel different? Are you a “new year, new you” kinda gal or more indifferent? I do like a good reset. Even though we’ll be doing more of the same early this year, I’m feeling more optimistic. For now. Cheers to 2021!

Also, posted in stories a nearly identical photo of us from last January at the top of @schweitzer_mountain. While the photos look the same, it’s fun to think that we now are Sandpoint homeowners! A positive outcome of 2020. #newyearonthemountain #snowbest #schweitzermountain #skifamily
Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all Snow plus a Christmas sweater...I’m checking all the boxes this year. Thinking of everyone not able to spend time with loved ones this year. I’m so grateful for our little family but really missing my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, my in-laws. Over a year seems far too long to be apart; but we all need to continue to be safe. It matters. #christmassweater #christmas2020 #staysafestayhome #vintagesweater
Let’s make merry! Although holiday traditions ma Let’s make merry! Although holiday traditions may look different this year; we have an opportunity to get creative and share in new experiences. Like the new-to-me homemade marshmallow recipe, @thekirstyfiles and I have the pleasure of bringing to you in partnership with @pacific_place. We encourage you to invite a few pals to a zoom date, pop a bottle of bubbly, and create these delicious confections together. I promise they’re relatively fool proof (I pulled them off!) AND a sugar-high afternoon spent with friends (even virtually) will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Tune in to Pacific Place’s IGTV or YouTube to see the full tutorial, including my gaff when my marshmallow began moving into the “hard ball” territory (note: this recipe does require a candy thermometer and the ability to read it!). Cheers to making the most out of holiday 2020! #homemademarshmallows #pacificplaceseattle #craftingtogether
Ooooh...how I love a good shopping day with a frie Ooooh...how I love a good shopping day with a friend. The belly laughs, chit chat, and groans (as we tried on a number of jeans) provided the escape from reality that I needed. Sometimes you don’t realize just how much you miss something until you get to enjoy it again!

Other things I love? Soft luxury cashmere, designer denim that fits like a glove, and packable hats (yes, packable!). All can be found @willaseattle; a small, women-owned boutique located in the heart of the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle. Be sure to check out our stories as @thekirstyfiles and I share holiday-perfect gifts for your sister, mother, girlfriends...yourself! Lucky for Kirsty and I, our husbands also know the lovely owner, Liz (and she has our wishlists on file)!

Also very near and dear to my heart, Willa is the epitome of shopping local. The shelves are stocked with unique, small business designs; including many Seattle businesses. When you shop local, you not only support your community but also curate a look all your own!

Continued chronicles of dressing stylishly for you Continued chronicles of dressing stylishly for yourself, aka #stayathomestyle. Sure, 2020 may be the year of the sweatpant (combined with a sleeping bag-like coat, as seen here). And yes, a mask chain is this year’s hottest accessory. BUT I still take care to actually get dressed each day. And while lipstick may no longer be a part of my daily routine (I mean, was it ever??), it’s still important to be pulled together..if only for my own mental health. And even if no one else sees it but the grocery clerk. #whatmamaworemonday #sweatpantsseason

Yes, perhaps it’s less convenient and even less of a “deal” but this pandemic is putting an even greater strain on the small and local businesses that are the absolute life blood of our communities. And, in addition to supporting an entrepreneur and neighbor, you’ll likely find more creative, individual, and unique gifts for your loved ones by shopping a small business.
