Life gets busy, especially when you have a young family at home. Finding time to connect with close girlfriends and get away from your everyday reality can be important. Speaking for myself here, it allows me to maintain my sanity.
Two of my best gal pals from college live in the Pacific Northwest (one right here in Seattle and the other in Portland). In the past, we used to make a habit of spending a night together in either of our cities. One night seems so much more “doable” (and tolerable for our husbands) than an entire weekend. And, because Portland and Seattle are so close, you can make a fun 24 hour adventure!
Sadly, in the past couple of years, our little tradition has fallen by the wayside. New careers, busy kid-schedules, family commitments…life in general just seems to have gotten in the way. Well, this year we are celebrating a milestone birthday (I’ll just leave it at that), so in order to properly commemorate the occasion and honor our tradition, we decided to splurge on an upscale hotel in downtown Seattle.
We chose the Thompson Seattle because of it’s proximity to all of the downtown activities on our gals’ weekend itinerary. Little did we know the treat we were in store for when we checked in on a rainy Friday evening. The room, the view, the amenities, the attention to detail, and, most importantly, the service far exceeded our expectations!
Did I mention this view?? We were spoiled with a 12th floor water-view room. With floor-to-ceiling windows, Elliott Bay is the show stopper. The hotel is located steps from the historic Pike Place Market with fresh flowers, artisan cheese and pastries, just-off-the-boat seafood, and Seattle’s infamous coffee just steps from the hotel. We could have sat all evening drinking champagne (a complimentary glass is poured in the lobby upon your arrival) and watched the tug boats work and ferrys shuttle commuters home to the islands.
I would be remiss not to mention the beautiful room with chic contemporary decor and plenty of space for the three of us (and even a fourth). The two queen size beds and a sizable, modern bathroom gave us girls plenty of beautiful prep and play space. We ordered room service and enjoyed another cocktail as we prepared to hit the town for an evening out.
The attention to detail really made us feel like special guests. This mat is changed in the morning to read: “Good Morning”…so clever. Everything from the eclectic “found” decor in the lobby to the fresh flower arrangements throughout compliments the hotel’s unique aesthetic.
And I must finally mention the service. The team at Thompson were so friendly, welcoming, and attentive to our every need. They helped set-up our blue tooth, delivered our cocktails with a smile, and took seemingly a million pictures of us. Thank you Thompson Seattle for helping to make our stay most memorable and for making the three of us feel completely pampered.
Check back in later this week as I continue to share more of our Gals Staycation in Seattle. More to come including ideas to plan your own 24-hour respite complete with other must-see stops and dining recommendations in the Emerald City.
This post was done in collaboration with Thompson Seattle but, as always, you can expect my opinions to be entirely my own. Also, a special ‘thank you’ to Alli and Casey for being patient with my photography – they are good sports and photogenic models!
