It’s the time of year when all the mats at yoga, bikes at spinning or parking spots at the gym seem to be full. I find myself amused and annoyed at the same time, seeing all of the new faces that are now invading “my spot.” In fact, my husband just started attending a yoga introductory class claiming that he is “New Years resolution guy” – better than continuing to be the “can’t-touch-your-toes guy.”
Regardless if you are making a new habit or keeping up with your current routine, we could all likely use motivation to get us out the door and hitting the pavement, pushing the pedals or rolling out the mat. A couple of months ago, I began a new barre class in the “land of the beautiful people.” And, while I am not advocating putting on a full-face of make-up for a 6 am class, I have “uped” my game and bought a few new stylish workout pieces to motivate and make me feel cute as I stare at myself in the mirror for an hour.
Yoga/Pilates/Barre
I can’t say enough great things about this brand made by Nordstrom. They have really fun designs at a fraction of the cost of other athletic apparel retailers. I have a purple pair of these leggings that I bought at the Anniversary sale last summer and I have been coveting this berry-color pair.
I am always on the hunt for the perfect slouchy fit; which is surprisingly difficult to find in athletic wear. This top fits the bill with a slight bat wing sleeve and an open neck. I bought the blue, which brightens up my otherwise black and grey ensembles.
I wish I had the guts (and the legs) to wear these. I wore leg warmers years (and years) ago when I danced but I’m not sure that I could rock them now. More power to you if you can!
I just got this for Christmas and I am loving it (so is the aforementioned hubs). I must warn you; however, it is really stinky at first. I wasn’t aware of this fact until I rolled out my brand new mat my first class after the holiday and nearly passed out from the fumes. Air it out but do NOT spray it with any kind of oil (like tea tree) – the mat is antibacterial; therefore an oil will break it down. Would have been good to know…
Running
My Lucy running pants are a favorite with just the right fit and, most importantly, staying power. I don’t feel the need to tug mid-workout!
I saw this in the store today and absolutely love the styling with the contrasting quilted body and fleece arms. However, it’s deeply discounted with an extra 30% off the sale price so, sizes are limited. Here is another alternative: http://www.zappos.com/marmot-variant-jacket-jet-black
Since having kids, I do not fool around when it comes to my sports bras for running (or for any high-impact sport, for that matter). This bra has been redesigned since I invested in mine, but with Lulu’s attention to detail and flawless quality; I am sure that it is new and improved!
I got a pair of these in my stocking last year, and they are my go-to when the temperature drops. They are still thin and lightweight with the perfect amount of contouring to grip your feet but Smartwool, so they are sure to keep your toesies warm.
Spinning
I have tried many a sports bra and there is not one that I like more for low/medium impact sports than the Champion bras found at Target. I particularly love the new patterns, like Popsicle Pink.
I love this simple cotton tank – with all of the crazy patterned, multi-strapped, sweat-wicking tanks on the market this is a great, basic go-to. It wears and washes well, not too form-fitting but slouchy enough for a fun bright sports bra to peak out under.
This jacket is a classic, warm and cozy sweatshirt. It is too thick to wear under another jacket, so this is worn on top. I’ve had mine for years and still reach for it constantly.
Thanks for reading and keep the feedback coming!
