White jeans can be puzzling. Aside from the obvious one (and I’ll address that below), when and how do you wear white denim once you have finally found the right pair? ANY TIME. Really. Once thought to be reserved only for the summer months, white jeans can look chic paired with most anything, and worn throughout the year (with your head held high!) Who shelves things after Labor Day anyway?!
I know what you’re thinking…and it’s true, finding the right fit for white jeans can be tricky. Yes, white does highlight every lump and bump, in addition to making things appear larger. First, I usually recommend sizing-up in white jeans. Second, and almost more important than the size, the thickness of the denim is critical. Too thin and the denim will stretch over areas best left camoflauged; however, it’s a delicate balance having just the right amount of stretch. Conversely, if the denim is too stiff (without enough Lycra), the jeans will not wear well and will be unflattering. Third, pockets. They should either be short (like these pictured), or cut and sew them shut (if you’re not handy – a tailor should be able to do this inexpensively). You don’t want to find the right fit, only to have bulky pockets drawing attention to your thighs?!
Sometimes white pants can seem harsh when paired with a dark bootie. I prefer to either show more skin by choosing a ballet flat or loafer, or wear a lighter-color bootie such as taupe or grey, like these pictured above.
A note on these booties; they are a new addition to my shoe collection – a slight variation of a tried and true favorite bootie. I advocate for investing in pieces in your wardrobe that bring you joy and that you will reach for time and again. When considering an expensive purchase, think in terms of cost per wear. For example, it may be worth the investment to buy a more expensive pair of boots that you love to wear and whose craftsmanship can withstand wear and tear.

Happy Friday! The weather has warmed up in Seattle these past few days (the sun was even shining the afternoon we took these pictures!). It’s bearable without a jacket…at least, for now.
As always, thank you for reading! Please leave any comments, ideas, questions…anything, below. ~Jenn
