Hold on to your seats! I actually got my leading man to take photos for some Father’s Day inspiration. And the carrot I dangled, none other than Filson wear! He agreed, still reluctantly, but definitely perked up when he started trying on this oil cloth bomber jacket and plaid shirt…and including his motorcycle in the photo shoot didn’t hurt either.
Ironically, the man who turned my husband on to Filson years ago is none other than my own father. I remember taking car trips up to Seattle in our family suburban and spending what seemed like endless hours at the original Filson store front on 4th Avenue South. We would watch the sewers making bags through the window and my sister and I would play pretend with the big game hanging from the walls. Memories also include my dad meticulously packing his Filson duffle bag and donning his long Tin Cloth jacket to clean out gutters in the rain. When John and I first started dating (more than 20 years ago now!), my dad lent him one of his wool Cruiser jackets on a chilly excursion and has since gifted John Filson pieces nearly every holiday.
My dad has always had an eye for quality craftsmanship and, dare I admit it, but my love for timeless style likely comes from him. The time he took to research and learn about the pieces he would invest in (before you could easily Google search), and then the care with which he takes to preserve his things, is inspiring. And they say women marry men like their father. My husband shares my dad’s appreciation for Filson’s quality and design. And dare I say, probably many other traits as well?!
At a loss as to how to honor the special man in your life this Father’s Day? Look no further than the Filson Gift Guide. From duffle bags perfect for weekend adventures, and coolers and packs that store fly fishing accessories, to leather flasks for summer camping trips (or tailgating fun!), this gift guide has something for everyone. More of an urban cowboy? Beautiful leather billfolds and belts, as well as these awesome ‘logger’ hats, make for lovely, timeless gifts. And this ultra-light, water-proof vest? It’s on the top of John’s list.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend. We’re beginning our preparations for Father’s Day (which includes a ballet recital); the kids have many heartfelt tricks up their sleeves this year…the best kinds of gifts. Hoping you enjoy the special people in your lives and that you find some time to get outside and enjoy all of summer’s offerings! Thanks for stopping in to read my blog. ~Jenn
A special ‘thank you’ to Filson for partnering with me on this post. As always, you can expect all opinions to be my own. Also, beautiful photography credit goes to Savannah.
